2015 BMW 550i Xdrive

I'm on the verge of purchasing a 2015 550, signed the paperwork and everything already just waiting on delivery as its coming from Boston MA (I'm in New York).

Two days ago I started to research the 550 to see what modifications I could do to it and upon doing so I discovered the infamous N63 issue.

I have become extremely worried and considering pulling out of the deal.

The car has 21000 miles on it and is a CPO with 4 months of original warranty left on it and the 1yr/unlimited CPO warranty that comes with all CPOs.

I reached out to the dealer today to let them know my concern about the vehicle as I found out about the N63 recall and finance manager told me I don't have to worry because they couldn't certify the car if it had any issues and the CCP service was already performed on the vehicle.

I really don't know what to do at this point. I'm getting a decent deal on the vehicle but now I feel like I'm gonna have a lot of headaches for years to come.

What are your thoughts guys? Anyone has a similar year and model that has experienced any issues?

Let me know as the car is probably gonna get delivered this week.

2014 is N63TU

There is no CCP for that engine, only N63 which is years 11-13 on the F10.

The N63TU is a more "reliable" engine. Unfortunately, no one can say if its 90% more reliable or 5%.

The finance manager is only saying what is on the paperwork an does not actual know anything more than that. During inspection they DO NOT pull the oil pan and look inside the engine for bearing wear or anything of that nature.

If I were you I would try to have them include another warranty after the CPO is over. (You can cite the numerous lawsuits and even the class action lawsuit pending against BMW) They probably will not do it. Walk away and go buy a 535 is what I would do.

You cannot buy a BMW V8 and not expect headaches. Scratch that; migraines.

As the above poster said a 2015 550 has the N63TU. The N63TU addressed a lot of the shortcomings of the N63 engine and seems to be (based on less complaints on the forum) more reliable.

I have a 2016 550 and I've had 0 issues so far.

There were only two vehicles I was considering. One was a 2015 X5 5.0 or the 2015 550 and apparently they both have the same engine. I told the finance manager today Im going to need a full comprehensive warranty in order to move forward with the deal. He stated he could give me a CNA Prefered Care+ warranty over 4yrs/100k miles for $3700 a discounted price from the $4800 regular price and I could finance the cost of the warranty at 0% interest over 12 months. I'm seriosuly thinking about it as I really like this car and its fully loaded.

CNA Prefered Care+ warranty

I purchased a 2015 550 CPO back in April of this year. She has been a beast of a car and a pleasure to drive with no issues, hiccups, weird noises, leaks, etc... Relax and enjoy this car.

I have a 2015 with 21,000 miles and I purchased the extended warranty. I wouldn't own a BMW without one. I suggest if you do buy it, get the extended warranty for sure!

when did you get yours and have you had any issues so far?
Did you purchase the BMW extended warranty or third party?

I got mine in December 2017 from a non-BMW dealer. I purchased a 3rd party warranty for an additional 100k miles. When I bought it in December it had 9,600 miles. I drive some for work so it already has 21,000.
The only issue so far was a "drivetrain malfunction" warning so I took it to the dealer. They had to replace one of the turbo sills. They ended up replacing both just to be safe and it cost me nothing and they even loaned me a free car for 3 days while they did it.
Like I said, repairs are very expensive for BMW's, get a warranty!! Usually warranties are said to be sucker "up sales", but not with a BMW because of the high cost of repairs.

Thanks for the advice man. I'm definitely going to get the warranty after hearing from a few people including you. I even was told straight up by a Mechanic at the BMW dealer that if I'm getting any V8 that BMW makes to make sure I get a warranty cause there will be issues no doubt but besides that he said they are great cars to drive.
