I've never had a smog test that checked my inlet. Being all black they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Smog guys I go to know nothing of the Bmw brand but they could probably spot fake camary parts

I just had one on our 2012 and the guy went over the the engine bay with a fine-tooth comb. He (I watched) spent around 10 minutes looking under the hood! I was surprised as I thought all they did anymore was plug into the OBD port and check for codes. I do know "they've" been cracking down here on smog stations.

It isn't an intake, if you used a stock airbox/intake with this inlet, I doubt anyone that wasn't BMW tech could spot it. It sits buried between the turbo and where the stock intake tubing begins..

That's what cost me my last smog guy! The one after him wouldn't proceed with the check because the CARB sticker was for the wrong car even though the engines were EXACTLY the same. Well, except one had Lincoln and the Lincoln logo and the other Thunderbird and the Thunderbird logo on the engine cover.

Life's too short to stress over passing a smog check!

It's your car and your choice. I hope it all works and y'all get passed with these parts! Hopefully after this last election my wife will finally realize it's time to move!

Noob question, isnt this inlet the same that also PURE offers which is a modified oem one or this is another inlet?

I think pure inlet is for F3x models only

Correct, Pure does not offer an inlet for the F10 and the one they do offer does not work on our cars. When I had purchased my Stage 2 turbo from them I did not know that and ordered it.


The picture below shows the F10 inlet next to the one Pure sells. It also shows how much ours is restricted if you look at the bend.

I don't think it is an issue at the power levels even with a bigger turbo. With the stock inlet I don't think anyone was able to get above 17PSI and then I was maxing out WGDC (Waste Gate Duty Cycle) because the turbo was keeping the wastegate closed trying to build boost, but the stock inlet didn't allow enough air to enter. The piece you are referring to looks like it could be an issue, but I am able to fully utilize the PS2 now without high WGDC levels. This means there is no significant restriction in airflow to the turbo.

In Santee just a few months ago I passed with a catless just made sure there were no easily visible aftermarket parts in the engine bay and made sure all emissions monitors were in a ready state 2 minutes before my appointment time,

Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade to stage 2 sooner than I thought! I was waiting for an F10 n55 inlet before upgrading but looks like AZ-MCRacer is our saving grace. Are there any more available?

Yes it would, but there isn't much advantage on stock turbo. The air restriction only becomes an issue once you cross the 400HP mark.
