Water dripping from moonroof when open
Ok, so it has been raining a lot lately but my F10 is never parked in the rain, only driven through it. I've noticed recently that when I open my moonroof and am driving, after a while some water will drip on to the back of the front seats and center console. This happens usually after 5-10 minutes of driving with the roof open, even if the car has been sitting covered for the whole day. This has happened the last few times I've opened the roof.
Now I've owned this car for 5 years and never noticed this before (2012 528i). What gives? |

I've heard of this in many cars with a sunroof. It's common for there to be holes that drain or channel water away and under the car. Not sure exactly where these are on the F10 sunroof but you might take a look to make sure they're not clogged with debris.

I would open the sunroof and check your drains. There should be a drain channel in all four corners. If you pour some water carefully from a mini indoor plant watering can or measuring cup it should go straight down the drain and run out under the car from the fenders or similar. It could be blocked and easy to see, or have a build up or kink in the tubing.
If water doesn't drain from the sunroof cassette area you can try to snake the drains carefully with something like string trimmer line. In general - checking the drains is something all car owners should do. I did this often on my E39 but have yet to do it on my F10 - less free time than I used to have back then Plugged or leaking drains can cause all kinds of nasty problems over time. |

So I'll check for these drains today and report what I find. The occasional drip into the cabin when the roof is open was fine, but water filled in some unknown area will certainly lead to problems. |

After I took it to dealer they fond out two front drain hoses was plugged but damage was already done.

So, I got home and decided to inspect the holes. I can clearly see the two drain holes in the front part as they have easy access. My concern is the back because, the water usually drips in when I brake hard, so assuming it comes from the rear. However, its near impossible to see the holes in the back of the moon roof because the glass does not retract all the way back into the roof. About 20% sticks out into the opening. So, how can I diagnose if I cannot get to them?

if you can locate hoses on other end not on sunroof this is usually located by by rocker panel and front fender.
Use compressor on low pressure blow everything out easy.

I suppose that is a way to do it. I'm just afraid, by doing that I may dislodge the blockage but also risk spewing everything back into the car, no?

Also, do all the drain holes from the moonroof drain out by the FRONT fender and rocker panel? Even the rear drain holes?

The rear drain holes drain somewhere in the rear fenders. Look for a rubber hose behind the rear wheel fender liner or between the trunk liner and fender.
