No, it works fine with cars equipped either way. It just needs to be coded appropriately.

A virgin cluster will adopt chassis mileage upon programming. A used one will not.

Sorry to dig this thread back up, but I am thinking about upgrading to a 6wb cluster and have a few questions.

Are there variants of the 6wb cluster that will fit the f10 or are all of the 6wb clusters the same. In other words, do I need to look for a specific donor car? I have been trying to research the swap and have come across a few G30 6wb clusters that I would love to pick up, but I'm not sure if the G30 cluster will fit. It seems like my current F10 cluster has a "hood" that spans over the top of the cluster that does not seem to be present on the new G30 6wb cluster.

Use one of the online part database sites...you can look up the two 6wa and 6wb clusters...then click on the 11 digit BMW part nbr and it should list all other BMW models that use the same part nbr. That way you'll know what donor BMWs you can use.

The 2nd pic you posted looks like the new style cluster used in the new G chassis BMWs...where just looking at the two outer (smaller) gauges indicates that the cluster isn't compatible with the F chassis. The F10's 6wb cluster has 4 circular gauges that are open on the side...whereas the f10's 6wa cluster has 4 circular gauges that are open on the bottom (almost like a horseshoe).

{6wa cluster}

{6wb cluster}

No problem...using the www.realoem.com website...and using my 2013 f06...I get these possible donor BMWs for the 6wb instrument cluster. And you can also see multiple BMW part nbrs that have been used during the production run of these BMW models.

Hey ,

Is there a way to identify if the Cluster 6WB has capacity to integrate with HUD or not?

Yes, it would have an extra plug inlet on the back (light beige if I recall correctly).
