Automatic rear sun shade retrofit

Hi all. I'm looking to install an automatic rear sun shade in my 2013 F10. I'm seeing a lot of chatter around JBE compatibility. Is there a way to check if my JBE is suitable before I go and by the parts?

Are we talking about the door blinds or "just" the rear jalousie/blind in the rear window shelf?

Would be interested in that as well - but a quick look in the parts catalog told me that this runs $$$ since the door trims are needed and the rear window shelf - mine is Individual with Alcantara - so even more $$$
And its not only the parts - wiring is needed for the rear window blind as well - just not sure if with some options the wiring and/or control unit is already in place.

Can you pls educate me what JBE is?

Cheers

Lars

Can you post the part number printed on your JBE?

[Edit: the roller sunblind is really just an "electrically operated roller sunblind" and is not really automatic]

The JBE is the Junction Box Electronics an electronic module mounted in the fuse box mounted in the front fuse box, accessible via the glovebox. In order to remove the JBE, it will require access to two small screws that hold the JBE into the fuse box, and it's much easier if the glovebox is removed (remove Qty 6 Torx screws and some electrical connectors).

If you change the driver's door switch assembly (requires door panel removal), that includes the roller sunblind switch, and then run two wires (green and white) from the JBE to the roller sunblind, VO code the roller sunblind (in the JBE), that's all there is too it....

In your case where you want to keep the Alcantara on the rear shelf, there are few on eBay from M5's that have Alcantara rear parcel shelf panel (P/N 51468038146)

Sounds not that complicated and if all parts are available used that drives costs down - hope someone who has retrofitted this can jump in and we get some experienced view here to avoid any hassle here.

Well, I did the retrofit......and willing to help....are you going to source a JBE that supports the roller sunblind and do you have the ability to VO code after the installation? BimmerCode works just fine....

To complete the list the switch which is needed in my case is P/N 61319241956 and as already mentioned the rear window shelf P/N 51468038146 an with the JBE and round about 500$ later everything is in the driveway waiting for the install

Have to think about that again in comparision/prio with other mods, but thank you so much for your help!

Hi M_Bimmer, can you give me some guidance on how to go about coding this with BimmerCode?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.
Make sure you have your new Driver's side switch assembly that includes the rear sunshade switch installed and connected
  1. Start up BimmerCode
  2. Select "Junction Box Passenger JBBFE" mddule
  3. Select "Expert Mode"
  4. Select "DTC_Sunblind_enable"
  5. Select "Enable"
  6. Hit back until "Code" shows up in the lower right hand side
  7. Select "Code"
  8. After coding, and JBE has reset, test your sunblind button....

If this does NOT work, report back.

Note: You do NOT need to enable "DTC_Sunblind_Protect", but if you do, it shouldn't change anything....that I'm aware of.

Hope this helps.

M_Bimmer my JBE arrive, looking at the A34*1b, how do you connect the pin 3 and 30? I have not open up the glovebox. I'm assuming the wiring harness for A34*1b do not have wires for pin 3 and 30.

Do I just get some female crimp terminal and slot it into the empty pin 3 and 30 holes?

Thanks

You will need to get the correct size and type of terminals so that their tangs properly lock into the plastic connector assembly A43*1B, else you just run the risk of your wires falling out.

The JBE connector assembly where you need to plug into socket location 3 and 30 is shown below.....I believe the socket is P/N 61131393704, but please double check this by measuring the socket that is currently in this connector.
