BMW Reportedly Considering F11 5 Series Touring for U.S.

if they gave the 5GT a more dignified rear end appearance, I am sure it would sell many more over here. The front is great, but the rear looks like a big sad face or soggy ass of some sort.
The F11 is handsome, but I can't see myself taking one over an SUV. |

For me, I have two kids, and we have 1 SUV and one sedan. I would love to have a wagon instead of the sedan. The wagon is not big enough for some of our longer duration trips, but it will be big enough so that we can take it, instead of the SUV, on some of the medium duration trips. With the sedan, we are really limited as to how long of a trip we can take by the size of the trunk. I would love to have the F11 in place of the F10. |

Read this in the latest Roundel, BMW definitely realizes the 5GT was a mistake.

Yes! It's about time they get a slap in the face, and I hope this influences their decisions with creating models that cater to the needs of every single market. I want the days back where seeing a Mercedes-Benz or a BMW was a rare and special occasion. Everyone has a 3-series or a C-class these days.

Please bring it back! I love my 5 series wagon and being a BMW fan, I would buy the 5 GT next but I would prefer the new 5 series wagon instead. It's beautiful!

Maybe if you ask nicely BMW will raise their prices by 30-40% and you won't have to see any more on the road. You can find a nice used Pontiac, in a few years you won't have to share the road with any others.

Thank God! Now, please bring over a diesel version of the F11 and I'll put my order in!

I hope they do bring it to the US, even if it is just a special order vehicle.
Owning 2 BMW wagons (both sport, RWD), I know first hand their advantages over sedans, SUVs or crossovers. The market in the U.S. may be small but it is very enthusiastic. For us, nothing else will do as a replacement. If BMW does not bring wagons anymore, others will. That CTS-V is looking tasty, so, BMW N.A. bring that 5 wagon with a decent drivetrain (not just the 4-banger) soon, or Caddy is getting my business next year. |

This is great news. I really hope they bring the F11 with all the same powertrain as the sedan AND those diesels they get in Europe. Can you imagine a F11 M5?

If only we would have had Oprah implore them to bring it here in the first place... would they have said no?
What they don't say (I'm pretty sure this is true) is that, yes, the 5GT 'outsold' the e61 it replaced, but I think they're comparing the last year sales of the e61 to the first year sales of the 5GT. That's very misleading because it's expected that sales for a model that's reaching the end of its lifespan are going to be lackluster. To this day I have NO idea what told them people would get a 5GT instead of a touring... I can see offering both of them and giving people the option, given that the wagon was already developed for other markets and only needs a few tweaks to bring it stateside. One of my favorite BMWs is the 2003 e39 540i Touring M Sport. So few of them were brought here, a friend has one, and for some reason I still lust after it. When it comes time for another car, I would not get an F10. The proportions look odd too me. The back end of the F11 balances out the front and I would LOVE to own one in M Sport guise. Bring it on, BMW! |

This could be the end of my frustration. I will need to replace my current '02 525iT in a couple of years, and I wasn't really excited about buying a used E61 (damn you, European Delivery, I can't imagine buying a car any other way now!), so I was about to start mental preparation for a visit to the neighborhood Mercedes dealership. If this does happen (I would assume that would be F11 LCI - 2014 MY, I guess?), I'll be first in line.
Would a manual transmission be too much to ask? |

Best news ever. My E61 Wagon was going to have to last me forever, or until I decided to get an E-Class wagon, but there was NO WAY it was going to be replaced with another BMW unless the 3er wagon was a lot bigger than the E91, or the new 5er made it over here.
I put my money where my mouth was when it comes to actually buying a 5er touring, and I'll do it again if given the opportunity. |

You can adjust the angle of the backrest.
I hope the US will get the touring. For me its like a wife and mistress in one person. Practical, and good looking and fun to "drive" at the same time Last edited by Touring; 08-18-2011 at 01:42 PM.. |
