Not possible on F series. F3x Alpina B3 uses an 8HP70 which is a completely different transmission to the 8HP45. On E series 335i, it was possible to flash the Alpine B3 calibration because they used the same 6HP21 transmission.

Good info, but how about a tuner flash for transmission?

Someone locally is claiming they have it for all recent models. Is he just talking out of his ass or are we missing something?

It could be a Magic Motorsport OBD flash but you would not want to flash an 8HP70 calibration onto an 8HP45 so it can't be a file from an Alpina.

I currently have the Alpina Flash on my car. However, let me make something clear as it may be a bit confusing.
The Alpina B6/B7 (F01 gen, not G12) (and I believe the B3/4/5) use the ZF8HP70, the beefier version of the ZF 8-Speed. The 550/650/750 share the same transmission, while the 28's and 35's (and 330i/340i/430i/440i) use the ZF8HP45, which a different version of the transmission. As a result, I've heard some who do the flash on the 535i experience jerkier shifts and it feels too aggressive for the car. Not sure if it's true but just wanted to share the info I know. I have the flash on my 550GT as I said and honestly I love it. Changed the feel of the car. Eco Pro/Comfort is still fairly smooth (actually a bit laggier now to keep revs low but I dont mind), but Sport/+ is far more aggressive and DCT-like, but be advised it's best to use the manual mode (M or S as opposed to just D) when driving faster or more aggressively, as the shifts are more aggressive as well.

Thanks guys, it's making more sense now. I'll reach out for what it's worth. I drive in Manual/S+ mode 99% of the time so I would really appreciate faster shifts. I knew this going in though, only got the A/T so the wife can drive occasionally.

You drive in that mode most of the time? Gangster bro. My fuel consumption would be terrible. I still have stock exhaust too though so its hard to hear shift points.

I love manual cars. Hate driving in auto but had to compromise. I wanted to get something with a DCT but couldn't bring myself to spend the money on an M car. So MSport with paddle shifters was close enough for me. Was hoping to find a good reflash but sounds like I'm SOL

IIRC the 550 has a different transmission than a 535i/528i. But BM3 came out with a trans update that removes torque limits in some gears and I gotta say it's pretty amazing. The shifts are much much faster than before.

535/528 has the 8HP45 You are remembering correctly. Edit: According to this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_8HP...Technical_Data The only difference between the 45 and 70 (2011 version) is sun 3 and ring 3, which makes sense given that the torque limits are in gears 3 and 6. Given that this is a physical difference, I wonder how removing the torque limit will affect the longevity of the transmission. I'm not really sure how transmissions work, so this is really just an educated guess. The more I try to learn about transmissions, the more I'm convinced they just run on black magic and pixie dust.
