2011 BMW F10 Dash lights.

So after coding my 2011 550i, I can't for the life of me recall if the gauges glowed white when the headlights were off. They turn orange when headlights are activated but when off, are the gauges are supposed to glow white?

Yes... white during the day and orange when the system senses darkness; not necessarily when the headlights are on. The dash lighting is independent of the headlight condition.

clarification

I know the time, temp and date etc turn from white to orange, but the speedometer and tachometer dial and numbers do they also glow white in a 2011 550i?

Again, yes. Just as written and explained in post #2...the instrument cluster is white in daylight...then turns the historically BMW red from around dusk to dawn (aka at night).

Only change colors if you have 6WA (with heads up) not with the base cluster

Must be rear specific

Thank you for your responses. My 2011 dash does not look anything like any of the pictures presented. I do have a heads up display but the rings around the tach and speedometer are solid. And all the data points are centered.

Just an FYI...my replies were in response to the question asked in regards to the lighting of the instrument cluster. Even though you don't have the 6WA instrument cluster (which is what I posted above)...they have the anodized rings that are open at the bottom instead of full circle rings of the regular/base instrument cluster...and the digital display completes the two larger circles along with other digital info. But the illumination/lighting of the instrument cluster is the same (white/red) depending on the ambient lighting. The lighting is white during the daylight hours...and red in the evening (dusk-to-dawn)

The base cluster has full rings and a smaller display for data...and the warning lights are in a slightly different layout. The 6WA cluster (analog/digital) cluster has 4 rings that are open at the bottom...and the 6WB (all digital) cluster has 4 rings that are open on the side (like mirrored Cs):

{Base Instrument Cluster}

{6WA analog/digital Instrument Cluster}

{6WB digital Instrument Cluster}

Correct I have the Base Cluster on my 2011 550i BMW. Apparently my speedometer/ tach dial numbers nor needle, dont ever glow white. They just turn from from plastic clear to red orange when it turns dusk and the digital info turns glowing white to red.
