Question Trying to replace broken underseat subwoofer

Hi all,

I just replaced my amplifier with a donor amplifier purchased off ebay - that went well without any issues.

While checking my audio I noticed my driver-side underseat subwoofer was not functioning. I don't think it worked before the amplifier change - I simply never noticed as the car was purchased used.

So I ordered a donor subwoofer from ebay but when attempting to install it there was 4 pins instead of 2 on my existing subwoofer. The connector also had the line on the wrong side and I couldn't push it in.

After reviewing the parts (which I should of done prior) I noticed the one I ordered was: 9169685-02 while mine was 9195199-02.

I was reading that I could possibly just shave done the line and fit this subwoofer in but I'm worried about it being 4 pins when my previous was only 2. The part came from far away so sending it back wouldn't make sense - instead of ordering a new subwoofer can I just somehow use this one or will it damage my audio system?

Thanks! I can provide photos if needed!

Was the amp plug and play? And I wouldn't really recommend that, just purchase the correct part.

I wouldn't fuck with it like that, it might even lead to a bass imbalance between the left and right. Just get the right sub.

Thanks for the replies.

1 - Yes it was plug and play, all seems well there

2- Do you think it would cause some kind of shortage or damage my audio unit?

The 9169685-02 is for hi-fi system and the 9195199-02 is for stereo.
They have different wiring diagrams. B63/B64 in diagrams below are woofers. You need to add jumper wires for the two wire speaker to convert to four wires.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.

@TV so if my Car is the stereo model do I need to add jumper cables when converting the 4 wire subwoofer? If I understand correctly if I was trying to use the 2 wire speaker in a car that has the HIFI audio I would need to use jumper wires. But if I'm trying to use a 4wire speaker in a stereo audio car - I still need to use jumper wires?

My understanding from the diagram is,
if the car has Hifi audio, the woofer is two wires. A four wire woofer can be used with the correct two wires.
if the car has stereo audio, the woofer is four wires. Two additional wires of it are for signal pass through to door mid-range speakers.

For Hifi audio, the Amp has separate channels to drive the door mid-range speakers

What cable are you using? Featuring clear signals and low data loss, the Mediabridge ULTRA Series Subwoofer Cable comes with a single solid center conductor. This metal carries strong signals from the audio output ports to your subwoofers. These frequencies can travel to as far as 300 feet. So, wherever you place that box, your sounds remain steady.

Hi Guys,

Also be aware that not all BMW subs have the same impedance.
e.g. the HK subs of an F10 are 8ohms, the HK subs for the F20 are only 2 ohms....

I chose to use the HK subs of the F20 in my F10. I connected these to an aftermarket amp (Match Up7 BMW). With the 2 ohms sub, the power output of the amp is much higher.

Might be good to know for later projects.. ;-)
