Hello- and no, the bottom plastic sill would not fit since the new intercooler sits lower. They do provide new brackets to support the intercooler and the factory bottom pan/cover still goes on to keep it looking stock from the bottom

Thanks for the pics.

Stock FMIC Timing looks like doo doo after a few WOT runs...Super hot IAT with stock FMIC

With the Wagner FMIC Timing Looks soo much better and so does the IAT
Nice Log too.....

Cooler IAT = Better timing = Happier Car = Happy Tune

The bad news is that there is only one intercooler available for the F10 535i and it costs about $900......Ouch !!!!

535i fmic behind hot radiator

I just installed the vrsf fmic in my 2013 535i xDrive. It will be interesting to see how well it performs. Initially it held after runs in the 70's. Outside temperature is 28, so around 40 above. Better than the stock which would be around 100.

I don't like the fact that this car puts the intercooler behind the hot radiator. I also noticed that on my car the lower part of the radiator had a lot of closures from 87000 miles of driving. I don't know how much of the actual air is getting through to the intercooler.

I may have to buy a new radiator, or see if I can spend a couple of hours straightening and opening up ther passages in the radiator. This is also a very tight fit, so heat off the radiator will transfer directly to the intercooler... they touch

Anyone else noticed this and how did you approach making the flow better.

That is pretty high for the VRSF FMIC. I usually see 10 to 15 degree above ambient during WOT pull. I did a run back to back today on 4th gear till redline. Outside temp was 39 and IAT's were 50. You seem to have big restriction or the intercooler not sitting correctly on the clamps.

535i Xdrive, MHD Stage 2, JB4, Pure Stage 2 Turbo, Customized Turbo intake (3" to 2.5" O.D.), stock turbo outlet to intercooler, VRSF Chargepipe, stock intercooler output lower chargepipe riser. The initial IAT was lower around 40, but as the engine heated up, so did MY IAT.

These are very tight behind the radiator and rear fan shroud. It's not a restriction in flow. I meet my DME load requirements, it just sits behind a very hot radiator, unlike the 335i's that have them in front of the radiator.

I don't think BMW thought people would really be using this car for performance and it's an easier location for the intercooler. It would be nice if they had a short and slightly thick radiator to exposed more of the intercooler. The lower part of the shroud blocks the lower extended bottom of the intercooler, so I have to cut and reshape it so air would flow through that lower section.

If I park the car, the IAT will be much higher when I return from sitting basically in the engine compartment behind the radiator (with 200F water).

I have 535i xDrive and running pure stage 2 as well but not seen that high temps above ambient with VRSF. Wonder if you got bad intercooler.

I got sort of similar setup as you. Also, not sure why you would.not get custom tune when you got PS2.

I thought if you using JB4 BEF then you have to keep MHD set to Stage 0? Is that not the case anymore?

tune is one problem, but I don't think related at this point. I am also working with Pureboost in Germany on a PS2 tune.

I have to install my catless downpipe (hopefully tonight) to see if my spool and boost rate increase (with a new O2). I want to make sure with this that my AFR is accurate and I am not running to lean/hot. If my cat is too restrictive, I may be creating too much heat with little flow.

I made a mistake about the radiator...it's the condenser (which I have the A/C off anyway...I wish they had a shorter condenser).

I noticed something weird recently. My IAT when I first start up the car is about 13 degrees higher. I had put in a new N20 (3.5) and I have the PS3 TMAP vacuum adapter for an analog boost gauge, which actually pulls the TMAP sensor out of the flow of the chargepipe and into the adapter. I really don't like that, but I want to monitor the actual boost while tuning. I may have to re-install my original, since I am no where near 20 PSI with the current setup. I think when I was running straight MHD )setting it for a N20 TMAP, it was more accurate then the JB4 Setting of a N20 TMAP. When I ran the MHD alone, I completely remove the JB4 harness. When I connect the JB4 backup over the MHD, I only set the N20 in the JB4...not in the MHD also.

MHD map 0 is ok, because you need this at least, so you can load the JB4 backend, but jb4 is an additive piggy-back system. I will be installing a water methanol kit also this weekend and I want to use the JB4 safety features. This is a good way to add to any DME tune.

Just saying I have been running PS2 with VRSF intercooler and never seen temps rise that high above ambient during WOT pulls. Good luck with the tune and all, but I would still suggest checking your intercooler connections but it is really up to you. I looked at all my logs and during summer and winter I never went up more than 10 to 15 degree above ambient temperature.

Low boost and high temps? A bad intercooler could explain both.

So the first main problem I had is related to the P3 TMAP Boost Tap. I wanted to monitor the analog boos in the chargepipe during tuning, so I bought the P3 Boost tap that installs between the chargepipe and the TMAP itself. The VRSF Charge pipe pulls the TMAP out of the flow path a bit because it has a welded block mount on the aluminum pipe, then add the P3 mount and it is out of the flow path.

My cold morning starts were showing 12 to 15 degrees F higher from the start. I removed the P3 mount and automatically the TMAP temp matched my outside temp.

Temps hold very well, and then I added my BMW WMI and my temps stay pretty close to outside during pulls. It may go 10 to 20 degrees high sitting a long time, but if I floor it, it returns down to about 8 degrees above.
