This Message Came Up??

Last night driving up a incline on the freeway, the car (528i) was in ECONO mode, when on my screen flashed : Drive train malfunction...See dealer!. I had a felling that it was in too low of a setting, so I switched to COMFORT MODE and it went away, never saw it again the entire 200 mile trip. All I am thinking was the car needed more motor going up the grade, and that a sensor triggered that screen to come on?....Any thoughts?

Drivetrain Malfunction is essentially a operator friendly Check Engine Light.

No way to say what caused it until the faults are read out. There will be a stored fault.

Good Deal

Thanks for the reply. I plugged the reader in, but it said "no codes".

OBD2 scanner won't work for this type of stored code

you need a dealer or BMW shop with proper diagnostic equipment

You'll want to take the car to a BMW specialist with ISTA, or a high end aftermarket diagnostics suite. A pocket OBD device is not a legitimate diagnostic tool.

Stupid electronic check messages.

Cruising uphill on the freeway last week I got a transmission error cruising at 60. Lost all gear engagement, had to limp over 4 lanes in heavy traffic with no power to the wheels. Shut the car off and back on and good to go. Just made me look like an idiot.

Please Help

can someone help me.

the car has now 45K and it is a 2013 535i.
this massage came on about 2 months ago while driving and i turn off the car and it went away until this weekend.

I went on a long drive of about 400 miles and it was fine. then returning from my trip of about 350 miles while driving halfway on the trip the drivetrain malfunction message come on.
i was able to drive home i didnt feel any lose of power etc. I got home and parked the car until 24hrs later to drive it to work. could it be that i need new spark plugs or something. or is there a way of finding out what is the problem before taking it to the dealer. I am afraid of the repair bill, or can my extended warranty cover this issue.
I will like to know when you guys took it to the dealer what did it cost you???? I am trying to get an idea so i can prepare myself.

As i am driving to work as soon as i got on the highway the message came on again. I will like to know what could be.

Asking people about what could be causing your drivetrain malfunction is like asking people around you what a text message might say before you open it.

No one is going to guess what of the hundreds of possibilities it could be.

Have the faults read out, you're wasting everyone's time (yourself included) until you do.

My 2013 528i flashed this message for the first time yesterday after I installed a Remus axle back muffler. It didn't do it until I switched to Sport mode and did some heavy accelerations. Could it have flashed the message because I didn't do anything with the vacuum line that was attached to the factory exhaust? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated

100% it's because of the vacuum line. I had the same problem when I had my Remus exhaust installed. I fixed it by taking a small screw and screwing it into the vacuum line.

Your "mechanics" diagnostic equipment is literally sold at Harbor Freight. I'd run, not walk, from that establishment and find yourself a legitimate independent shop with trained technicians and ISTA at their disposal that can identify the actual issue faster than you can post a screenshot of their Chinese kerd rehder on a forum.
