Piano Black Finish Trim (Scratches)
Hey guys I am planning on going an ordering a 550xi this weekend I was debating on getting the Piano Black Finish trim, but before I did i just wanted to know how hard is it to keep clean and is it true that it picks up fingerprints and scratches easily? Any advice would be appreciated. My interior is a black nappa leather.

Others might say different but if you don't like looking at fingerprints and scratches, steer clear of it

I have it in my F10 M5 and also had it in my F10 550ix. Beautiful but pain to keep clean.
I'd go with something that requires less maintenance.

I have the dark wood and I think no matter what you get except the metal, it will scratch and leave prints, I just put a coat of wax on mine and it is easy to polish every week. not a big deal if thats what you want.

I have a triple black F10 M5, with Piano Black Trim as well. What kind of wax did you use on it? Does it really help to keep scratches and stuff from accumulating? I have Opti-Coat 2.0, I was thinking of maybe using that as a protectant. Interesting ideas.

I couldn't stand looking at the dust
I ordered a 535 with Anthracite, after two months I replaced ($500) just the dash trim pieces in brushed Al. In the 535 they use a thin strip of aluminum below the wood on the side trim. I really like it. Although the console shows dust and prints, I was always staring at the dust on the dash. Glad I did it.

At first I used Meguiars tech wax, it worked fine, I now use Wolfgang Fusion wax on my car, I love this wax, and it is worth it...and I also do the wood panels with it...so any wax is good, I wouldnt use one that powders up though because of the mess, waxing keeps the swirls and fine lines down, you dont have to let it dry, just apply and remove quickly. I only use a high quality micro fiber to clean it or buff it off, I dont know anything about the opti coat process, I dont know if I would chance that since it is a permanent ceramic coating. It may work though, try one of the smaller panels to test it. If you have any heavy swirls on the wood, swirl remover by meguiars works great followed by a coat of wax. The black or the wood in my opinion is much better than the metal since it is still a luxury car, and gives it that rich look. I would of got the piano black if it were an option for my 2011, but I got the dark burl wood, not the anthracite.

Thanks guys for all the advice, even though the Piano Black may look stunning i might just have to go with the Anthracite Wood Trim which also looks pretty good with a black interior.
