I meant if the car was in "P". If the car was in gear, I agree it should not shut down. They could simply use the speed sensor to detect that, but I guess if the sensor was faulty you run into the same liability issues.
Seems viable to me, when you put it that way.

Sorry to say, but if you do that you wont be able to lock the car as it will sense a fob inside of it. They used to have a spare magnetic key in the E60 that would open the doors and enable start ignition that I used to carry in my wallet. That would be a viable option but I guess it does not exist in the F10...

I have done this (my wife drops me off at the airport regularly), with key in pocket.... and it is a real problem if there is no spare key, but more importantly she can't get into the house when she gets back!
