its crazy! all the chinese letters and then as you press it different designs come up like squares and polka dots i was like WTF did I do!!! but yea somehow got it back

Those are the diagnostic displays, about a dozen or so
Interesting that they show the indicators but bmw never implemented them (unless you code them)

There was a post sometime ago about this and someone helpfully posted a number of the images that the HUD test patterns display. It should be in the archives.

That was me, just search for hud diagnostic pics
Not shown all of them , about a dozen or so with geometric shapes, the whole hud set to certain colours and sample screens including some in japanese.
