Learned something new

I've had an intermittent "problem" where the trunk won't latch closed and reopen. Weeeelllllll I finally figured it out! I have been in the habit of starting the trunk closing and then (sometimes) walking away. Once I get a few feet away the trunk will "close" then immediately reopen. As long as I stay near the car no problem!

Only took me 3 1/2 years to figure this out!

Haha nice! I have to get around to swapping out those replacement springs as my trunk will fly open when I hit the button. I still have to put my hand on the trunk than press the button lol. Been procrastinating ordering the parts

Hmm I do not have that issue... I hit close and walk away and have never had it reopen.

OP, have you tried replacing the batteries in your remote?

I also can close it with the remote, again it always works for me. Not sure if that's OEM though as I bought mine used, someone could have coded it.

Closing with a remote needs to be coded which many of us have done so.

I swapped out my springs Memorial Day weekend. It wasn't too bad of a DIY.

Umm, you shouldn't need to stand close by.

There was a TSB on trunk not closing all the way and instead popping back open to half position. BMW addeessed in a software update. Meaning dealer needs to upgrade your iStep level. My 2016 had the issue and dealer resolved when car was new.

I'm relatively sure the issue was the extra remote I had in one of our suitcases in the trunk.

On a side note, as much fun as the street car (named Desire) is from The French Quarter to the Garden District, driving my 535 2/3 (so far) of the way across the country is infinitely more fun!! This car eats mile after mile for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Off to Asheville tomorrow!
