Hexagon vs. Dark Wood Trim

My 5 has a black interior and came with the Hexagon trim. I've always had a soft spot for the Dark Wood trim. So what's your opinion, should I stay with the Hexagon or switch to Dark Wood?

I've always thought the aluminum looks pretty horrendous. Kinda tacky IMO for a car of this class. Love the dark wood in mine.

The Aluminum Hex looked better in person to me than in pics. With a black interior, I like the Hex better than wood.

I like the look of the dark trim but in time I think it will show scratches more than the aluminum hex. I think the Hex looks a bit cheap as well - wood seems richer, but the Hex is more sporty. Everyone has an opinion so just go with what looks good to you.

+1 looks much better in person. IMO, the aluminum hex trim work much better with the black interior. It's also easy to keep clean. Prints and dust don't show. If I was as gonna go with mocha or oyster interior, I'd pick the dark wood. Either way you go, can't go wrong IMO they're all top class looking material.

I had the brushed aluminum trim on a previous car and it was a magnet for scratches. It looked damn good though. What's been your experience so far?

Never liked any wood trims in cars. I vote for hex trim.

I'd love to see a carbon fibre option on M Sport models. Looks great in a Porsche.

I had aluminum hex in my 535 and now i have black anthracite wood. Stick with aluminum hex. Any dark glossy trim on this car scratches like there's no tomorrow no matter how careful you are. Even using a micro fiber towel on a opticoated trim still shows hairline scratches on it. Aluminum hex was completely maintenance free.

I can back up the claim that the wood scratches like crazy. I had it in my 2011 F10 and the first time you clean the dust off it it will look scratched in the sunlight. It was bad enough that when I ordered my new F10 I was going to go with aluminum hex even though I prefer the dark wood, but in the end I didn't think the aluminum went with my Mocha interior, the wood looks much classier in my eyes. I've decided to live with the scratches, but it is an issue to consider. Light wood on the other hand might not show up the scratches. I'd love to see wood on the dash and doors and matte black on the centre console, like the M5. The centre console is where the scratches are worst.

Brushed aluminium, with Black interior the perfect contrast, and light up the interior while keeping the Black leather, I have it on my 2011 still enjoying it 3 years on.

The darker trims are more appealing to me, the cosiness effect is a must for my long drives. On a scenic road, they are like displays reflecting all the outside details - especially the plain black glossy trim. At night, the orange lighting really makes a wonderful effect on the darker trims - almost like a fireplace - but make sure nothing but moist micro fibre touches them, or they will scratch!

My previous M-Sport F10 had the hexagon metal trim and it felt very cold and mechanical to me… mind you, these were quite susceptible to scratching too, especially on the fold just above the glovebox and around the gear lever.

Depends on your color choices and the options on your car. IMO an MSport car with the black interior deserves the hex trim, it looks amazing. I hated the hex I saw in pictures but sitting in the car I was sold. Leave the wood for your grandma's Lexus or Mercedes.

I just stopped off at my dealer for end of lease inspection. Current is CB M-Sport with black and anthracite wood. My new M-Sport just arrived and was getting detailed (Saturday delivery), jet black, black interior with hexagon trim. The hex trim looked great, especially with the new white stitching on the Dakota leather. Brightens up the interior. Glad I made the decision to go that route.
