Installed M sport steering wheel, have a shadow code now stored

Upgraded my 2014 LCI Base 535i steering wheel with 100% brand new OEM parts and airbag.

So i installed a LCI M sport steering wheel, no paddles, no heating, no lane assist etc, basic steering as my OEM setup from the factory.

everything works 100% perfect, but i do have a code that is always stored.
Guessing because the buttons are different ( M sport variant) is the only way the car knows this? Buttons and everything works great.

Just wondering, why the shadow code?

Do you mean M SPORT wheel or M5 wheel? There should be no real difference between the sport and base wheels other than appearance.

M sport, the steering wheel that is oem for these cars with M sport package..

Yea, i dont have a issue but i also never saw anyone read codes and mention this being a shadow code, so just bringing it to light.

I will have to find it, but i was very detailed in my order getting everything 100% right, and everything is working 100%.. Just when i scan the car randomly, i see that this shadow code is always there hanging around, dunno what it means but it doesnt seem to effect anything, was just wondering.

My car is a base, no option 2014 LCI 535i.
No heat, no assist, no lang change, etc. Literally nothing option wise.

My M sport steering and parts are all brand new and oem from my local dealer including the airbag.

New wheel, trim, airbag, wire inside, etc.
I ordered everything to match the base no option oem steering wheel one by one.

My guess is the car knows the Multifunction buttons are not the oem ones but M sport ones not meant for this car, how it would know that i have no idea nor why it would matter lol I would imagine everyone who has done this upgrade has this code aswell.

I, for one, am stumped. The steering wheel controls work the same on both wheels. The only difference is physical location on the wheel; i.e. vol up/down,voice command and phone. The wiring should be the same as everything works exactly as before and the plugs are interchangeable.

I can't tell by the pictures so could you verify?
On the right side, your old wheel has six buttons, which includes the scroll wheel.
Your new one I only see five. I can't see the "push to talk" button.

Yea, im stumped too.. No big deal anyways, doesnt effect anything. As confirmed above another member has same shadow code stored which you would never see unless you scan your whole car ecu's.

I guess the M sport buttons send out a different type of signal? Why bmw go out of their way and would make a shadown code for this i would never know lol

I will post another pic head on tonight..

My M sport wheel buttons

Right side:
Push to talk, telephone button, + and -, and MODE button in silver, and the scroll.

Left side:
SET, RES, Cruise tach button, and scroll.

Matches 100% with my oem base steering wheel button wise.

I dont know if you can see it but its the tech with a arrow on it on both wheels that set the cruise on.. All buttons are the same and US spec etc.

Inside the wheel is a small electronic module. You probably have to add the “sport steering wheel” relevant code to your vehicle order and VO code the car. Should take care of this.

Also, check if you can use the module from your stock wheel and fit it into this one
