Hey guys looks like I found a pretty good deal.
Only issue is its 5hrs away...but the price includes free delivery. Not sure I'm ok with that though... Fair retail price per KBB.

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/share/243114493

Vin decoder:
https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/d536949

Every feature I want... except adaptive cruise control, though I'm not convinced it doesn't have it since it has the intelligent button with camera functionality for collision prevention. It would be weird not to have adaptive cruise control when you have that camera by the rear view mirror, no?

M sport
Comfort Seats
Cold weather
Premium
Driver assistance
HK speakers
Head up display
Parking sensors
Lane change warning
Ambient lighting

Thoughts? Might be worth a drive if I can get it for 23k if I go there.

You would be looking for option code 5DF, Active Cruise Control with Braking.
Sorry, that one doesn't have it.

No. . As already answered by wcr3d...if a BMW has ACC (adaptive cruise control...it will be listed on the VIN decode list. There are also other "visual" tell tales, too...and its not the COLLISION button (because that option used the KAFAS camera...whereas ACC uses radar.

If a BMW f10 has ACC...you will see the extra buttons that control setting it up on the left button pod on the steering wheel (see #8, #9, & #10 in pic below). And you will also see the ACC sensor below the front bumper.

Perfect I got it. I assumed that the Germans put it on the steering wheel like every other company, just wasn't sure. It looks like it's in great shape and I'm assuming still under the 50,000 mile warranty no? I'll give the dealership a call this week

It has the aluminum hex trim which-while in used to seeing the grey wood with a black interior- in kind of inrerested in seeing it in person. Its m sport specific and I hear its good at hiding scratches too

No ACC but you'll like the LED headlights and auto highbeam.

You linked the VIN decoding site...so I'll assume you saw the car's manufacture date (3/4/2014), right? The car would have had to sit on the lot and not be sold until after July 2015 to still be under the "time limit" of the warranty.

In case you're not familiar with BMW's new vehicle limited warranty...see exerts below from the BMW owners manual:

Thanks for that silver. I didnt know it was four years. Good to know. Is the aluminum that is all in the center console by the cup holder and whatnot actually aluminum? Want to make sure it's not fake.

Decisions... The only thing I have is time on my side. .. And I need to remind myself that. There's a big jump between this car 5hrs away and 25k with tax, and waiting around for a closer private seller for 18-20k that has an m sport for sale. The m sport requirement makes it like finding a unicorn it seems

There are two kinds of aluminum trim if I'm not mistaken.
Hex and brushed.
These will also be stated in the vin decode.
Use the time to determine exactly what you want.
Don't be surprised if you have to travel for it, depending on where you live.
Also suggest CPO, some prefer it, some don't.

I went locally and saw a hex aluminum trim. I don't like it, way too sporty and less business class for me. So I'm going to pass. Pretty off-topic, but I noticed a 740 for sale with the inline 6 motor. I never knew the 7 series had 6 cylinder motors, I always thought all 7 Series had the unreliable 8 cylinder motor that everybody says to stay away from. Can someone verify this? Would a fifth generation (2008) and newer 7 series with a 6 cylinder be essentially as reliable as a 535i or is the motor under powered for the the body size? I know to stay away from the V-8 obviously, but I'm just checking with you guys the experts

The F chassis 7 series saw the return of a 6 cyl 7 series sedan to the US market. The e38 and e65/e66 7 series had 6 cylinder engine models...they just weren't sold in the US.

The F series model nomenclature changed to:
  • 740 = 6 cyl
  • 750 = 8 cyl
  • 760 = 12 cyl

Got it. So 740li has the exact same engine as the 535i? I was worried the 740 has dual turbos or something to add maintenance compared to the 535

No you don't got it.
Yes it is turbo. Technically not a twin but BMW "Twin Power" turbo.
They got into some trouble when they first came out as it was misleading.
Basically a small and large combined turbo to minimize the lag.
ONto the motor, same basic but with changes and software tweaks to squeeze a bit more.
They did do the same thing but in the other direction when they made the 528i, then they took that one to a 4 cylinder.
None of the 6 cylinders are the same across the different series.
They change things like pistons, compression, intakes and software to separate them.
When ever you think you have it figured out, check again, BMW excels at keeping it confusing.

Thanks for the info. I figured there was some sort of tweaks. I think I have to go check one out. They might be a little too big for just a secondary car for family trips to a grad party...

The 7 will be more of a land yacht than the 5. The handlers, best to worst, are 3, 5, 7. That's not to say that they aren't better handlers than most of the cars out there.

Here's an odd question, but I noticed some 535s have a different colored center inlay on the back bumper. I saw a dark blue M sport that had a gray plastic inlay in between the exhaust pipes on the bumper. I don't really like the look honestly, but didn't know if you guys knew if it was only on certain cars or was this just something that someone buys as an option?

That piece is called a rear diffuser.
From my understanding it comes in Gray or black, depending on color combo.
But you will see all colors and a lot of custom parts.
This particular part is highly customized and widely used.

Okay cool. So I'm sure I can get a diffuser of whatever color I want pretty easily and cheap on the internet?

Things like this can easily be explained by using one of the online part databases like www.realoem.com .

In this case...you say it was a 535 with the M-sport pkg. All you need to do is pull up a 535i (select the model year)...then go to the VEHICLE TRIM diagrams and pull up the rear M bumper (which is different than the regular non-M bumper). Scroll down to the part number index and you'll see that the M package uses item #4...and the supplemental column lists it as being M-DARKSHADOW:

hey guys i think i found a good one.
2013 535xi
m sport
premium
cold weather
premium
technology
drivers assist
comfort seats
ventilated seats
60k miles

i think thats pretty much every option aside from maybe adaptive cruise and the fancier suspension?

i hate paying retail (actual tax) but with this one it would be nice since the bmw dealership sold it new, and then just took it in and it was a CPO from the 2nd owner, so they know the vehicle.

let me know if you see anything cool on the decoder link too.
