Brake pad life in iDrive

Hi guys,

About 15,000 miles ago my car said I only had 3000 miles left on the brakes. I had my dealer measure the pad life and correct the reading. Great!

Yesterday my car suddenly decided to tell me that I had 1000 miles left on the rear pads - it had triggered the wear sensor. Tonight I swapped the pads out for new ones and reset the service indicator.

The reset was successful but it says I've got 16,000 miles left on my rear pads. I'd imagine what has happened is that the car has worked out that there was 15k miles between the last reset and the 1k to go sensor being triggered and therefore decided I'm really hard on the brakes and thats all I'll get.

How can I reset this to the standard 50k I should get from new pads? The dealer won't be interested given I've changed the pads myself, but there must be a way to edit it because they managed to it.

Otherwise it's just going to count down to 2200 and then sit there for 40k miles until it triggers the sensor again which is going to drive me mad.

Any ideas?!

If you didn't replace the sensor even coding won't help.

I replaced the sensor.

The issue is because it's seen that the last brake pads lasted 16k between reset and replacement and has therefore assumed the same will happen again, as it doesn't know the last reset was a correction by the dealer.

The forecast needs to be reset. When the dealer adjusted it, they only adjusted the pad thickness, but after if tripped the sensor later it did screw up the calculation. Not sure if there is a way to fix that without using ISTA. Unless it bothers you a lot that it stays at 3100 miles for 40-50k, I'd leave it
