Damaged plastic under bonnet

I wonder if anyone can help. I have a late 2014 BMW 520d M Sport (F10), which I bought unseen just over 12 months ago from a car supermarket (yeah I know!). The car has been overall fantastic, however, there is some damage to a plastic piece just behind the bumper under the bonnet. Can anyone tell me what that part is and how it was likely damaged? I suspect it has had a new front bumper fitted as there are hardly any stone chips in the paintwork.

I have attached some photos. Does anyone know what the part is or what the part number is?

Thanks in advance!

Isn't that piece metal? If so, you should just be able to repaint it. You're also missing a couple of fasteners.

www.realoem.com for part numbers...

edit:
Never mind! I see it now...

The piece is definitely plastic and yeah I would need some fasteners.

Here is my 2014. Looks like that piece goes across the whole front, behind the bumper cover.

I hate how brittle the plastics get from the heat cycles, one of the biggest things I dislike about bmw. Side note, I forget how much room the engine bay has with the N20 and N55.

It's not just BMW, it's ALL manufacturers. It's all about saving weight.

I've never experience that at all with the Japanese sport cars I've owned. I took my F10 in for a service recently for warranty repair and they broke 2 tabs on the engine cover and a wire harness bracket, of course they don't own up to it, I discovered it weeks later while doing an oil change and my bi-monthly inspection.
