'TPM Malfunction'

Got a 'TPM Malfunction' error today. I tried to do a reset but it just kept "measuring" and even went into 10 minutes before I got home and parked it. Been doing some forums research and am finding that it's either one of the TPMS, in one of the wheels, or it's a faulty RDC transmitter/module located in the back bumper (?). I saw a YouTube video of a guy who paid something like $550 for his issue to get fixed and am really hoping that's not what it's going to cost me to make something futile like this go away. Thinking about stopping by my local Discount Tire and having them see if they can check the functionality of the sensors in the wheels.

Any help or advice is appreciated in advance. It's a '16 550 with stock wheels and tires.

If you have a scanner for BMW like Carly, BimmerLink or ISTA, they will tell you which sensor is not being detected if it's the sensor.

Discount tire can scan to detect which one is not putting out a signal as well.

If they are all working, you most likely have a bad RDC module.

You're on point! I do not have a code reader but, fortunately, discount tire is 5 mins from my house. Took it over there at lunchtime to have them read all 4 tires and the front pass-side was out. $60 later to replace the TPMS, I'm all set. Was really getting worried it wasn't the RDC module so I feel like that was the best $60 I've spent in a looong time. Case CLOSED!

...or at least until the other 3 go out.

Good outcome!

Which will be relatively soon. The batteries are probably the same age.
