BMW 2016 N20 528ix - Overheating Issue (Water Pump)

I took my car to the mechanic shop to see what was my cars issue cause when I turned on the car the radiator fan would turn on, on a cold start, as if it was overheating. Check Engine light came up and the car gets overheated showing the coolant level go up to 120+celsius. I assumed it was a water-pump & thermometer issue, but the mechanic told me I should to take it to BMW instead, because of something regarding BMW's reset computer after the water pump replacement, but yet I've seen DIY's on replacing water pumps for the n2o and no one uses any device to reset after the replacement besides doing the regular water pump test through the car. I'm not sure on the issue and would there be any issue with me replacing the water pump and thermometer myself, or why else would they recommend to go to the dealer?

Is the mechanic a BMW or German specialist? I've never heard of a water pump adaptation after replacement. Not saying it doesn't exist, just haven't heard of it.

Why don't you do the replacement yourself, and if it works, great! If not, you can take it to BMW for just the adaptation. That would be a lot less expensive than having them replace the water pump and thermostat!

Yeah, do your own research and see if you can replace the Wp and Tstat and coolant flush yourself, and check that coolant temp sensor. Check and replace any worn hoses and check your coolant reservoir (Expansion tank) as well.
