Why not use the 374 F10 calipers that fits?

And, you know any difference between the snow wheels vs regular wheels like the 351s? or is it just marketed as snow package but just a wheel like any other.

I have to go this route, I have the rotors, missing the calipers and pads.
Based on ebay it's cheaper to get the calipers with the right carriers vs getting 550i calipers and extra carriers.
(I believe both calipers would work since I got the 760i rotors)

Have you put 19s on your setup?
I have 20s with spacers but planning to get 345m 19s this year.

Rotors I bought

calipers willing to buy:
Caliper 1
Caliper2

Yes, those calipers will work just fine. They are the 760Li calipers (Same as Alpina B7/B6)

Also they will work with 19 wheels. (Recall that Alpina B7 came with 19 winter wheel/tire set as optional)

That's a good deal on the calipers

Checked as well on a 2013 7 series brochure that the 760Li have the 19's available. Brochure Page 15

So much good information in this thread, thanks to all those who have contributed !

One issue ive run into is one of the hardlines on the G30 front calipers i bought appears damaged, and im new to bmw and having a hard time seeing if that part is available. Its the hard line at the bottom of the caliper that goes from one side to the other.

Does anyone know if BMW or the aftermarket vendors would sell just that line ? or am I looking at trying to bend my own. Ive searched but havent been able to come up with anything.

Thanks again

BTW, your car looks great with those wheels and the blue G11 brake upgrade! It should have come that way from the factory!

Your wheels have a nice concave face which looks fantastic, but makes clearance a little tight for big brake calipers. Looking good!

I have my own G11 upgrade coming soon, with the 750 rear brakes as well. Can't wait!
[QUOTE="Blue Angel;28734274"]Nenad, I just noticed you mentioned doing the M5 rear brakes. I think that might give you too much rear brake bias at 39%. You don't want too much rear brake bias, or the rear tires could lose grip before the front.

It would also make your front brakes jealous as the M5 rear brakes are 21mm larger than your 760 brakes!

I think the correct rear brakes for your car would be the 750 rears. Use the F01 750 370mm rear discs with M5 calipers and brackets.

The 550 rears may also be an upgrade if you don't already have the 345mm rear discs. If you do, all you need is the M5 brackets to upgrade to the 370mm discs.

Thank you 🤗, i did extra 6 mm spacers to clear the spoke/caliper problem and now is okay, also no rubbing at all.

You are right when it comes to M5 rear retrofit, Front calipers/rotors will be "jealous" on rear but:

The Price was good for rotors, also i did resource a good M5 calipers pretty fast, i didn't blinked and all parts were in Garage.

I was thinking: leave as it is and in the near future change the Fronts again for bigger rotors/calipers. ( 400x36 from x5m i think)

I will think about what you said, make perfect sense but still i'd have M5 rotors and with them, wheels are looking awesome.

That's always an option (or the F01 760 caliper/rotors), however the fixed 4-piston G11 caliper looks FAR better in my opinion. I have not verified yet, but I have a feeling the G11 caliper is also lighter since it's an all-aluminum design vs. the F10/F01 with steel carriers.

I have not verified this, but I believe the 408m was introduced as a winter wheel specifically for the M5 as a factory option that cleared its huge brakes, and came with bespoke Pirelli Sottozero tires. In 2012 19" wheels and winter tires may have been hard to come by? More likely is BMW wanting a pricey factory option for spendy new M5 owners.

The M5 was later offered with even larger carbon ceramic brakes. It is my understanding that the 409m was released as a winter option at that time since the 408m would not clear the new brakes (again, I have not verified this).

From what I have read, neither wheel is forged however they are pretty light so again, not 100% sure. Apparently BMW never advertised them as forged, so they likely are not. 408m are 19x9 and ~25lbs each, 409m are 20x9 and ~28lbs each. Both styles are ET32 front and ET25 rear.

To compare, 343m are 20x9 ET34 front and ~25lbs each, and 20x10 ET34 rear and ~26lbs each. My aftermarket flow-formed 20x9.5 wheels are 23lbs each.

Here are some pics kind of supporting my statements on the tight fitment of narrow 19" wheels on the M5. First, just a great look at the 408m on an M5 showing how huge the brakes are inside those wheels:

https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=159

And another showing that the calipers almost touch the wheels if you get the fronts/rears mixed up (offset different by 7mm):

DAMN those brakes look awesome. OK, I admit if I had those sitting in my garage I'd be installing them too.

Let's see some pics when they're done!

THIS!

I have the exact same issue. The crossover tube on one of my G11 calipers is damaged. It's not bad and I was planning to just dab some black paint on it, but if it's available I'd like to replace it.

Anyone got any ideas?

You are correct on them not being forged. I believe all of BMW's forged wheels are made by Fuchsfelge, and they have a full catalogue of what forged wheels they make:

https://www.fuchsfelge.com/en/wheel-...ll/bmw-m5.html

Interestingly enough, the 343M's are marked as ET32 on the fronts.

Unfortunately, no one makes the line separately, at least not explicitly listed for the G11 calipers. The "generic" ones you find listed online will be a game of trial and error. Honestly, if it's damaged, just make your own. It's a ~8 inch line that has two bends, with bubble flares on both ends. Standard flare nut threading.

Unspec thanks for the reply. Yeah i figured that might be the case, ive done it on other cars before, just a huge PIA when theres more than one angle to bend and have it look factory. There's 2 slight bends per side before the 90. Good to know its a standard flare nut though.

Oh yea, there's a 30 degree bend as well, forgot about that. Probably best bet is to just take a protractor and start measuring. Tedious but unfortunately just the way it shakes out sometimes :/

This is on the inside of the caliper. It's more of a scratch than serious damage, and I'll likely just dab some paint on it.

I bent a new set of underbody lines for a previous car I had which rusted away. That was not a fun job, and three years later they were starting to rust badly again. This was using parts store brake lines, which were "coated to resist corrosion". BS. They were crap.

The lines on these G11 Brembo calipers are coated with a thick durable looking coating. After a few Canadian winters I bet the lines I make myself would be in way worse shape than this!

THIS IS NOT AN INSTRUCTIONAL POST. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS IT'S AT YOUR OWN RISK.

So I made up a super ghetto wooden template to hold my router and machine the G11 callipers for wheel clearance. It looks super sketchy, but actually worked remarkably well. The cut is smooth, the finish is good, and with about a 10 mm cut across it makes for about 7mm extra wheel clearance.

This is a Freud 1/2" router and a 45 degree chamfer bit, set to the slowest speed and conventional cutting (NOT climb-cutting. Look it up).

My 408m clear the calipers with about 2mm to spare. Close, but it's about as much as I could machine without cutting into the cylindrical material behind the pistons.

The 409m and 343m may also clear since they and the 408m are all M5-specific wheels with very similar looking spoke profiles.

To be honest, this wasn't necessary for me as I use a 10mm spacer on my front 408m wheels, but I wanted to do this anyway before painting the calipers in case I need the clearance in the future.

Just to be clear, you know that you've got the caliper swapped right? The brake oil line goes below the caliper and the vent hole for air should be facing up top....

Yessir! Since the caliper mounting holes are the same left and right I was able to machine both calipers on the left side of the car, saving the time of tearing down and setting up again on the other side. I just happened to take pics of the right caliper on the left side.

The G11 calipers have an inner and outer die casting (bolted together), and the outer casting is the same on both calipers - they just machine it according to where the small/large pistons go depending on the side.

You mad lad, love it.

Any plans to take a file and make smooth it out, or just going to leave it angular?

Edit: Could someone also check for me, for the G11 calipers. Are the 44mm pistons facing each other, or facing the "opposite" size? (e.g. 44mm facing the 40mm piston)

I plan to soften the edges with sandpaper just to keep there from being any stress risers that could start a crack, similar to the way all the edges are rounded over on the diecasting.

The 40mm pistons face each other and press the leading edge of the brake pads into the rotor. The 44mm pistons face each other and press the trailing edge of the pads into the rotor. This is done to even out the brake pad wear. Without staggering the piston sizes the leading edge of the pad tends to wear faster than the trailing edge.

Installed on the car the 40mm pistons are closest to the ground.

Oem m5 caliper Color Code

Anyone knows the color code for the m5 brakes?
I believe it's the Monte Carlo Blue "B05 BMW Monte Carlo Blue Metallic Color Match Brake Caliper Paint"

But I want a color code to give to the shop, so they don't take the easy route and go to a similar blue instead.
