Things to replace

So my buddy has a 135 N55 and he needs a new starter. I will be showing him how to do it and doing most of the work. since I will have to remove the intake manifold to get to the starter what else should be looked at/Replaced. He is at 76k Miles. Im sure its the original Valve cover and Gasket. I know he has done coils already.

Oil Filter housing gasket is a common problem, chargepipe (no reason to change if it's fine), valve cover seepage is possible, other than that routine maintenance should be it. N55 is a pretty solid motor.

Thanks. He has decided to do Starter, Water Pump, T-Stat, Valve cover & Gasket, Oil filter housing Gasket. He wants to get all the items that could fail at this mileage or soon doesn't since I'm doing the work and he doesn't have to pay dealership prices anymore.

That's the first I've heard of that... care to elaborate?

I'm going to have my indy mechanic do it but would still like to get my learn on anyway.

According to posts on google an air pocket can make its way through to oil pump causing no oil causing serious damage.
If you google Broken N55 Crankshaft, it will be a post on a website. It will explain there. User posts a comment from reddit which will talk a little about it too on that same website.
