Question Coolant leak near turbo

I have a coolant leak on my ‘13 535i that I’m trying to narrow down. The leak is dripping onto the red intercooler hose and onto the ground. I can’t quite tell where it’s coming from though, even with my inspection camera. I don’t see it from looking down into the engine compartment, only from underneath the car.

Any thoughts on common leaks in that area of the engine bay?

Are you referring to very short, red color hose attached to radiator? If so, it's a thermostat hose. Please provide pictures if applicable. Try wiping all off and see where it's coming from. There is an intercooler on the passenger side behind front bumper and usually if it drips, it goes straight down from there. Perhaps it traveled and dripped on thermostat hose somehow.

It’s this hose that I’m referencing: https://images.app.goo.gl/QRMwGybWKfsGgJ8r5

I see. You are referring to boost charge hose. There are a few auxiliary radiator hoses passing through that might be leaking at the connection to the auxiliary radiator that is located in front of the passenger tire in the bumper. The leak might be traveling on the hose and dripping there. It could also be thermostat or other cooling hoses. Needs to be be clean and looked at to find the source.

I’ll try to remove the boost charge hose and see if I can get a better look.

Found my coolant leak. Thermostat housing dripping onto the boost charge pipe. Off to FCP Euro I go!

Update:

After replacing my water pump, thermostat, mickey mouse coolant flange, and drive belt/pulley/tensioner, I realized my radiator was also leaking. I just ordered a radiator and lower radiator hose from FCP.

Since I have everything apart, I figured I might as well upgrade the intercooler, so I ordered one of the Wagner knock offs from eBay too.

Some notes...

The N55 water pump can easily be changed (at least on the RWD) without touching the sway bar or steering rack. Once it's unbolted, there is enough play in the hoses to angle it in such a way that allows you to loosen the hose clamps and pry off the hoses, then you can slip the water pump up and out in front of the radiator. To do this I had the boost charge pipe, thermostat, and fan removed. Remember, if you remove the boost charge pipe, that you need to cover the intercooler hose opening (I used a sandwich bag and a zip tie) so you don't get coolant in the intercooler.

The hose that connects the thermostat to the cylinder head (via the mickey mouse coolant flange) is a good spot to flush the head and block. Once it's disconnected from the thermostat, lift it up, and attach a funnel...then pour distilled water in and it will come out from the water pump hose that connects to the thermostat. My car had green coolant, so I'm flushing the whole system to switch over to BMW G48 coolant.

If you have an air compressor, and you don't already own a vacuum coolant fill tool, buy one. I got the OEMTOOLS version (same as Schwaben) from Amazon. It makes the filling and leak testing much easier. And yes, I'm still going to do the bleed procedure.

Oh yea... I never check this section here but I could have commented on all this - dealt with this whole thing when I did the PS2 install... fun job!

It is a thermostat leak that happened to me at 51k miles and cost me $600 to replace, including coolant flush, at a local shop. Did I overpay?
