I guess I've been lucky with the diesel recalls of both my X3 and 535d. In each case, the dealership was able to take a huge number of photos and determine that my respective EGR coolers were not blocked with excessive soot. Of course, when working with car dealers one is required a suspension of disbelief, so who knows how this will turn out for me.

I was visiting dealer last year when i had issues in my 530d 2011 with disappearing coolant and it turned out the problem was egr cooler. Dealer said there is no recall so i turned to indie which was 5x cheaper. The problem was fixed, egr cooler replaced. Now surprise surprise- this year received a letter from dealer that there is egr recall! Looks like bmw service department has delayed recall and waited more cars were fixed on their own.

While warranties and recalls for BMW vary from country to country, in the US, at least, BMW will reimburse a customer who has had to replace the EGR cooler before the recall was announced. If you have a record of your expenses, perhaps, BMW will help.

Also having issues

My usual 45-mile drive into the office reads 39 MPG on the trip computer. Since the recall, it's reading 35 MPG. Add to that an odor in the cabin just after startup, I'm thinking something is amiss with my recall as well. I'm calling the dealer again to check it out. |
