Oil consumption?

Everyone how much oil do you consume. Especially n63 people what's your oil consumption how will I know when my valve stems are starting to go. I currently do about 1qt every 1500-1700 miles. And it's cold where I live so smoke test seems misleading.

N63tu - 1 litre per 2500 kms (varies by driving style odo = 67,000kms)

I will be changing to 5w-40 from 5w-30 to see if that helps.

... I just posted about this.. I have a 535.. but In know the N63 folks had an issue with burning oil...I too have seen more smoke recently, hoping it is the condensation in the exhaust system burning off... I was thinking the worst though.. but I would rather deal with valve stem seals then a head gasket.. which is very rare for the N55

I go through 1 qt every 3 months these days with my reduced driving. I think you're in the "normal" range. Do you have an N63 or N63tu? If the former, has the CCP work been performed? If so, you don't need to worry about the valve stems.

That's a great question I'm waiting on bmw to get my hpfp that was on recall and they told me that they will give me a print off of everything that was done while on warranty. But any services that a customer paid for or was done outside of the warranty they cannot disclose. Which sucks cause then I don't know when I've had a coolant flush last or brake fluid flush ect.
Also I have a non tu motor. And im at 119k miles.
Got it right at 100k

I might be just thinking the worst case just like you said because I am well within the oil consumption parameters according to Bmw. And it is cold here where I'm at maybe your right and we are burning excess exhaust condensation. 🤞🏼

So I was just up at BMW they gave me the print off and my car did participate in the ccp program. Which addressed oil consumption and the timing chain was done. But it was completed at 37k miles and the car now has 120k miles. So it could be ready to be done again im thinking. But I'm just gonna try to stay ahead of her with preventative maintenance and hopefully I won't have to do them. If I do by that time I won't be daily driving it and will probably buy the aga tool to do the job with the engine in the bay myself. Thanks everyone.

That's the year I'd like to get next. I really want an m5 and the f10 lci s63 tu is definitely the way to go. What's your driving style. Burning no oil after some pulls in my n63 would be a miracle lol. Thanks for your input.

I drive the car to work a couple times a week and take it out for some spirited driving at least once a week. Usually when i drive it to work, i tend to red line it a few times for fun. No track use at all

My 535d uses no oil, I have never topped it up in the 35k miles I have had it. And yes I do check the oil level!

My 535d burns about 60-65L of oil between fill-ups.

Sorry… couldn't resist!

My 535d dumps diesel into the oil so it goes up on the dipstick.

N63TU tuned, 45k miles currently I have added only 1/2 qt to keep it at max between 5k miles oil intervals, but not necessary. Use Liqui Moly 5w-40 with MoS2 anti-friction additive
