Another EGR recall

I've today received a recall letter in respect of my 2012 530d for another EGR cooler replacement (last carried out in 2019).

Quote: "This recall will include fitment of an EGR Cooler first made available in July 2022".

I have received the same letter for my 2013 520d.

Not sure if mine previously had any recall work completed for EGR. It certainly hasn’t since I have owned the car (From Dec 2018)

Mine went in a couple of days ago: Williams BMW Bolton. Could not ask for better service. Phone call after a couple of hours indicating that the work was going well and car would be ready for approx 3.30pm. A video link sent by text message showing the results of the car safety inspection and recommending new front discs and pads (£700) and some wear on rear tyres (£300 each), which I will do myself.

As well as the EGR cooler they replaced the EGR valve, the associated cooling pipes, a vacuum pipe and a pressure converter. They also replaced the small front acoustic cover. This lot plus ancillaries such as pipe clips and coolant resulted in an invoice, presumably to BMW, of £714.

Question Just received my letter... Do I put everything back to stock?

Hi all,

I have just received my EGR recall letter. I have installed a newer NBT HU, and 6WA cluster. Should I put everything back to original before taking it in, in case they try and update any software/firmware?

I'm a little worried that they will call to say they had a problem while coding the software, and may not be able to complete the job. Or something like that.

Any advice appreciated

My car went in for a service a few weeks ago and got done at the same time as a bit of a surprise. Unfortunately it caused the guys at the dealership a bit of grief as I was originally having it as a while you wait appointment ooops.

Lookers were very good though and organised taxi to take me home and also collect me again afterwards to pick the car up. Vastly improved since they were Knights!

Nice! I take it you've got non-standard kit in your car too then??

I very much doubt if there is any need or will to update software. The recall is merely for the EGR cooler replacement. The list of items on my invoice only mentioned EGR related matters (cooler, clips, coolant etc). I've coded various eSys mods on my car and nothing had changed.

I have some retrofits but they've been done to factory spec wiring and vehicle order amended properly so no issues there at all.

They definitely didn't update the I-Level of the car though.

Getting them to update the I-Level was probably wishful thinking on my part....!

I've tried numerous times to get them to update for genuine reason. ConnectedDrive team advised the car be updated to fix a problem I was having with the phone but local dealer point blank refused to do it despite having an email from them as my phone wasn't compatible apparently......sigh.....
