Fuc* Freecreditreport.com Scam

So I don't really use my debit card very often, but I decided to check how much was in my account 1 day so I checked -$2.50. Somehow this company is getting peoples banks numbers to charge your accounts. I've been charged for 5 months for $15 a month. Being a 21 year old college student, thats a lot of money to me! I have never been on there site or anything, they somehow got my account #, and its happened to many other people. I called them today, talked to 6 different people, they either acted like they couldn't here me or just hung up on me. Complete bullshit. Just wanted to let you guys know. never used freecreditreport.com!

Yup, it's a scam. You sure you didn't enter it for a free credit report? If you don't cancel your initial free report "subscription" within 30 days, they automatically enroll you and keep charging you.

I heard that site is all BS and would never trust them.

I've got a credit montoring program through my credit card company (A la Experian) and I pay $12 a month. I'd rather trust them than that site.
After I applied for financing for my new 335i, I got a notification on a change to my credit report which included the amount financed and for the credit review by BMW financial. I called them to notify them that the change in my credit is valid.
I'm glad to know they're monitoring.

I never even been to there site, I searched for the charge on google and there was tons of people with the same problems. People that have never been to the site, and people that had no idea what it even is. Definitely wouldn't trust that site!! Mostly when there employees pretend that they can't hear you or just hang up on you. Terrible business.

a lot of these sites have a fine print that you have to UNCHECK certain conditions. they will automatically sign you up for some kind of identity theft protection for $X a month. you have to opt out of it. it's tricky because most things you want, you have to opt in for. in this case, they add it in and make you remove what you don't want so most people overlook this.

www.freecreditreport.com is owned/operated by Experian.

I've used it twice on separate occasions (buying cars) to check my credit score before going to the dealer.

Cancelled both times, with no problems, no charges, etc, etc.

Perhaps there is a freeeeeecreditreport.com that you all are going to that's a scam, but the one above (with the catchy commercials) is legit as far as I'm concerned.

It isnt a terrible thing. It put me in experian direct and I had some stolen identity last year when I went to apply for a home loan, and fought the battle and won and got my credit back. I forgot I was signed up for this as I just pay my CC off each month, anyway, blamo first of the year I get an email from them stating that my score is down and that id theft from earlier is back. I called the place back up and they removed it immediatly. In my case it helped but now Im going with 7 year fraid protection on all my accounts. My credit is into a place where I wont be getting denied for anything within reason anytime soon, so need to safe guard it.

Heck, even employers are running checks now on hirings. Its good to have good credit.

it's actually a small price to pay if you want to keep track of who is screwing with your credit. if someone applies for a credit card under your name, it will warn you. if there is a change in your credit score it will warn you. i signed up for it last year to get my credit score with the intention of canceling it. i decided to keep it since it's only $7.47/month.

Some of you guys DO NOT listen, as I stated, I NEVER signed up for it! I never ever heard of it until I saw there commercial a couple weeks ago. So yes, It is a scam.
And I am in college and pay 100% for my car, so yea $75 is a lot to me. Its in my account that I don't really use, but its nice to have just in case. Even If I made 100k plus a year I would be pissed off about losing $75. Its my money, no one else's. Mostly If someone is scamming me.
Wish they scammed some of you guys, the way you make it sound, you wouldn't even care. Sounds like I value a dollar better then some of you.

Not legit at all. Im sure some people have no problems and Im sure some do. Its obvious, if everyone had the same experience I did, they wouldn't be in business. Im not making this up, I called there number provided on there website and had to talk to 6 different people. 2 said they "couldn't hear me" after I gave them my information and 3 hung up on me and the last lady HOPEFULLY cancelled my account, with 0 refund. So obviously there taught to hang up on people and ask like there phones are having a problem. And I had full bars, my phone was working fine. Terrible company.

Well maybe it wasnt you that signed up for it, check your card out and see where the charge originated from.

The first page of links is to their website? Where are you going with this?

As a matter of fact when I tried searching a bit deeper, (Search terms: Free Credit Report Scams) the only negative press that I've found for this site is it stating that you need to read the fine print about getting a report and then canceling your service or you will be charged a monthly fee. (See Image in my previous post).

Link please that shows freecreditreport.com is at fault.

OP, I seriously doubt that freecreditreport.com is charging your debit card randomly. I'm not saying it isn't happening, but if it was in fact a "fraudulent" charge, then your first call should have been to the bank to report it... if your bank was worth a damn, they would have in turn taken care of it and refunded the missing money and opened an investigatory file on it. Calling the people who you think are charging you relentlessly is sounding a bit like an admission of guilt. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've signed up for the service multiple times. There is no way that you can accidently sign up for it.

All I'm saying is that with so many of these "free" credit score places out there that I don't doubt that there was a story on CNN about it, and I'm sure people are getting scammed, but I don't think that a company with a profile as high as this one (one that is owned by one of the national credit reporting bureaus, I might ad) is scamming you for $75.00. Hence my original post with freecreditreport.com with all the extra "e's." Perhaps they couldn't cancel your account because you don't have one with them and you inevertantly signed up for another company who was riding on the real services' coat-tails. Or as the previous post from another user says, perhaps someone has stolen your CC number and used it to sign up for them.

In all seriousness, I hope it works out for you. Getting the run-around sucks in any form it comes. If I were you I'd call my bank right away and just report it as fraud, if that's what it really is.
