F10 535i DCT Swap

Hello ladies n chaps!

I have recently been thinking about doing a DCT swap from a S55 motor from a M3/4. I was looking to see if anyone knows what components I would need to make that swap possible and help guide me through the project. I have seen on YouTube of people swapping a DCT into a N54 335i, nothing for a 5 series.

As far as I've gathered, I need to change my flywheel from 6 nut to a 8 nut. That's all that I know that needs to be done.

Still gathering funds to make it possible, so this is just to help gather information. If anyone can help me out, my DMs are open for suggestions and help!

Why? Are you going big power single? Have you tried XHP flash? To me the power band of the MHD2+ & XHP3 compliment each other pretty sweet🤌🏾

Actually that's a first hearing about a transmission tune... would you mind sending me a link? I think that would save me a lot of money. I wanted to push 400-450 if I end up building it.

Do a quick "XHP" search here first learn a bit about it,then you'll know what you are getting into.

550i runs 450hp and 480 ft-lb stock through the same auto transmission as you have. ZF8 will handle that kind of power with no problem 😉

550i has the zf8hp70 which can handle the torque the motor puts out. I believe it's rated at 700nm. The transmission found in the 535i is the zf8hp45 which is rated at 450nm.

I agree, try the xHP trans tune. It made a huge difference in the way my car felt. Different “stages” and very customizable too to dial it in just the way you want it.

The ZF8 gearbox seems to be quite reliable, I don't see people with 135i, 140i, 335i, 340i swapping their stock one out at all.

The DCT is of course a much more aggressive and exciting gearbox to drive with though - my thoughts would be to drive it until the box goes bang (if it ever does) then consider a swap.

I must say I always wanted BMW to make an S55 DCT F06/10/11/12/13 - that'd be epic!

I could be wrong, but doesn’t the F generation M5 and M6 have the DCT?

EDIT: Just realized the keyword there was S55. Those ones I listed have the S63

That is a very very interesting task you have set for yourself. I will tell you that the amount of coding you will need to get this to work is incredible. The gauge cluster wiring will plug right in if you get an M3 cluster from F82 into your F10, but you will need to get a new DME, CAS, ICM units to start. Your DSC2 module will not accept the new DCT transmission as it's a different unit for M models.

How far have you come in your research?

Hah yeah, I have an F13 M6 and an F11 528i with the N52 and ZF8. If I could have an S55 and DCT in the F11 I’d have bought one of them instead
