Otherwise, I’m gonna say fck it and go JLC. Getting tired of the Rolex/AD game.
Store credit? That's sounds like an outright scam.
I'm also curious which AD is taking deposits.

my AD in Va Beach normally doesn't take deposits, saying it doesn't speed up order fulfillment. the availability of certain models is fluid and is dictated by Rolex production schedule which seems arbitrary. a good AD keeps tabs on the flow.

that being said, when we voiced interest in Jan 2021 for two OP DateJust for me and my wife, he didn't accept any deposits. 1 month later, as a show of our commitment, I asked him to accept a deposit on both. my wife's 31mm OP DJ arrived the following April, and my 41mm Wimbledon arrived in September.

difficult to say if the deposit made delivery of either watch faster, though it seems more likely for my wife's than mine (2 months vs 7 months after deposit).

I've given up acquiring another Rolex (or AP) until the day where I can actually place an official order for one through an AD or boutique.

This is how it SHOULD be....to help combat the flippers....

not sure how ordering a watch would combat flippers
a flipper could place an order just the same as anyone else, no?

Yes they could, but Rolex for instance could limit the amount of new watches an individual could order.

This way customers like myself who don't flip new watches for a living would have a better chance getting one at MSRP if could order directly from Rolex through our AD, and not have to buy on the grey market.

you're asking for a lot
why would Rolex limit a customer's orders and possibly alienate their best customers to make a potential one-off purchaser happy?

Two years of frustration waiting for a white faced Daytona will do that to a man....

There is enough demand these days for Rolexes that they don't need "best customers". Rolex does though run the risk of alienating customers like myself (non-flippers)....

and in the same vein, Rolex doesn't need to ruffle any feathers and impose any restrictions because they sell through everything anyway

a part of equation is exactly the fact that not everyone can get the Rolex that they want

Your are absolutely right, and it is for this reason I will not be purchasing another new Rolex (or AP for that matter) unless I can purchase at MSRP.

Simple as that....

I picked this up today from my local AD, I've been on the waiting list for just over 2 years.

jubilee is too "busy" for me. i prefer the look of a tool watch with less lines.

So. I had to go to the mall the other day (something I avoid like the plague as a rule), and I stopped by the AD there to see if they had the new Air King.

They were wiped out, except for 3-4 "exhibition" pieces.

But- the funny thing was a younger (mid-30's) guy who was there shmoozing the rep *hard*.

The part that got my attention was his saying that he would take any and ALL OP41's and/or Sport models.

So, I understand why an AD putting a limit on purchases wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Which is why we can't have nice things.

Not sure what it's like in the rest of the world but here in the UK once you've purchased a certain model then you're not allowed to purchase anymore of the same model.

I've got a Sub date and my new Sub no date so now I'm not allowed to purchase either of those models again. The only exception is if it's an insurance claim.

I could get behind this.

But unless Rolex started keeping an online database for their AD's, that might have logistical difficulties. (At least over here on the privacy crazy side of the Pond).

I’ve purchased 4 Rolex’s in my lifetime. Still have all 4 in the family. My last was a Daytona 2 tone. Love that watch and I’ve been offered close to 2x what I paid for it on one occasion and been asked if I’m interested in selling it many times.

The market is crazy. Just wait it out. Paying MSRP only fuels the fires. Imho
