Reinforced charge pipe as good as aftermarket?

So right after I bought my car ('16 535i) I was trying to install my little Dinan piggyback (the cheap "Sport" one) and accidentally broke the sensor and it's little mounting piece right off the charge pipe. I went out and bought an epoxy to reattach it. It needed hours to dry and it feels like it's really on there and the seal appears intact. My mechanic told me that's where our charge pipes fail and since I've reinforced it, I don't need to replace it with a sturdier aftermarket charge pipe. The Dinan piggyback adds 4 pounds of boost and I haven't had any issues but I want to flash MHD and assume that will further up the boost. So do the charge pipes break/fail elsewhere or is it always that sensor that gets blown off? Thanks in advance.

The charge pipe usually breaks right where it connects to the throttle body. If you’re looking for a temporary solution the epoxy might hold. But I would definitely get an aftermarket one.
Better safe than sorry, Especially with MHD.

I reinforced it and never had to change the CP. I also don’t floor it all the time though. I run JB stage 1.

All you did was band aid it...what do you think is going to happen when you band aid repairs?

If it breaks, I would just buy a new charge pipe lol.

the F10 chargepipe designs seems to fail at the TMAP sensor mount most of the time, if you plastic bond or expoxy that, it should never blow out.

Garage List
I beat my 16 535I. MHD Stage 2 just did a 155MPH run and no issues after reinforcing the area with epoxy filled with glass microballons. On my 2013 I blew the sensor mount clean off on a MHD Stage 1 tune doing pulls on Alligator Alley. Got the stock pipe replace under warranty and did the same mod never had an issue.

Make sure you properly dress the surfaces. Sand to 80 grit and clean several times with Alcohol. Glass Microballons are optional. you can use milled fibers or Cabosil. All can be bought at boat repair shops. Remember the longer the epoxy takes to cure the stronger it usually is. If you can use the 10min or longer stuff just keep in mind that it will run if you don't keep an eye on it even if you thicken it with items listed above. When cured I hit it with some black spray paint and even the dealer wont notice it.
