1st to 2nd shift is kinda jerky at higher RPMs. Normal?

I've noticed that since the day I've had this car, the first to second shifts with the ZF8HP is pretty jerky. At lower rev's its fine, and from 2-3, 3-4, etc, it's smooth and fast. But 1 to 2 is just kinda jerky/slow. I've read that it's a pretty common complain and just wanted to see if others have noticed this as well. This is with only roughly 3-4k miles on the current ATF.

Edit: Reset the adaptions in ISTA. Maybe that was why. We'll see how it feels tomorrow.

hmmm... I know that during cold start my 1-2 shift is delayed higher in the rpm even at low throttle input. This in particular is an intentional mechatronics programming by ZF. My old Audi had a ZF 6HP19A and it did the same thing. Allegedly, it is to assist in warming up the transmission fluid. I do not experience this in any other time.

During WOT I break traction into 2nd, and chirp into 3rd (when running E30), so shifts are pretty fast and good. I changed my trans fluid & filter a few months ago with Liquimoli TopTec 1800 fluid and ZF pan filter. I think I had about 112k miles when I replaced the original fluid.

I wouldn't say its a common complaint, maybe a few have complained. I've never had rough shifts from 1-2nd, even when cold. I did have rough shifts where it felt like a bang downshifting from 8th-4th. But that was a bad guibo and xfer case. Since those have been replaced no issues. My X5M had sluggish engagement from a rolling start but a fluid change solved that issue.

Personally I advise against transmission adaptation resets after reading this: https://www.facebook.com/xhpflashtoo...23761651273188

Agreed, I don't reset it regularly. This was the first time I've actually done it.

I think my 1st gear is going out lol... I have always had the jerkiness from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to first. I switched in xHP to always start in 2nd gear and car runs without any issues. So I am keeping it at start from 2nd gear plus 1st gear ratio is so short and per xHP starting in 2nd gear reduces 0 to 60 times since one less gear to change.

Until I need a new trans lol...

Question... is there a way/ does anyone know if ISTA+ can confirm a situation like yours? Like testing individual solenoids in the mechatronics to see if that 1st gear solenoid is pumping at enough PSI as it should? I honestly don't know as I've never worked with ISTA. I just ask because a used Mechatronics and programming is much cheaper than a used 8HP and programming!

ISTA can display the current adaptations for your transmission, and there's a generally acceptable range of values, so that might be able to help out.

Don't know haven't used it but xHP shows high quick charge time for clutch A which is out of tolerance. I am just going to use it till it dies and buy a used trans. I just wish someone made a upgrade kit for 8hp like they recently did for 6hp.
