Guys we all heard the videos between an AFE and BMS. The BMS is more audible than the AFE. that's why most of us can't justify spending that much for the AFE

See now I feel like experimenting a little lol. I just placed an order for a K&N panel filter from our forum sponsor Extreme Power House.

Im curious as to how much of an improvement in IATs I'll see with stock airbox + K&N filter, compared to the custom intake I made (cone filter and 3.5" aluminum pipe... cone sits just behind the alternator so similar position as the BMS open filter). I wish the JB4 could log airflow like MHD does! But IATs are significant enough so I'll compare that.

Also curious as to how much more muffled the stock airbox+ K&N will be compared to my intake. Last I ran the stock airbox was with a brand new BMW filter AND 7 months ago.

I'll make a separate thread once I get the filter and have the time to do logs.

i have the K&N drop in filter and i can't hear crap? sounds stock since the filter is in the sealed intake box just like how the AFE is a sealed box as well. i listened to Burrninja's BMS and it's loud AF and you can hear the turbo spooling. i don't hear that with my K&N. i'm sure the K&N filter kit tho since it's open design will sound just like the BMS.

Honestly there's no audio improvement since i installed it but i'm sure it's breathing alot better compared to the OEM filter. there's a Youtube video that shows under test results and data that the K&N has significant improvements over a stock filter.

Yes! Seen this one thanks. I know it'll flow more. You're right about the sound muting lol Grrr I do enjoy my spool up noise. I'm curious as to what the difference would be in both airflow and IATs on my custom intake Vs stock box+K&N.

I know IATs will improve. Especially around town driving. I'm not quite sure as to airflow improvements given that the custom intake is VERY free-flowing with a massive cone filter... but it's also sucking hotter (and thus less dense) air. We'll see!

You know I'd love to see either Inline Motorsports or Thic Garage do back to back dynos. Both of those guys in particular have 1- stock intake, 2- BMS intake, and 3- aFe intake. They're all quick easy swaps that can be done within an hour's dyno time right there on the rollers

EDIT- After posting this I get on IG and Thic Garage is uploading an intake comparison video today 4pm ET. So lets see what he does!
I think Thic is a cool guy personally, but when it comes to his video's from a car perspective I can't stand him... WOW DUDE LOOK AT THESE WHEELS, LOOK AT THAT REFLECTION, LOOK AT MY CAT. IDC

Lol he's still learning bro. I'm just glad there's finally quite a few 535 Youtubers now. Inline Motorsports, Moose, ThicGarage and i know there's a few more but I can't remember their names right now

He is very talented, that is for sure, but I wouldn't be taking car advice from him is all.

Is the general consensus saying the OEM intake is the best? I only looked up Afe intake after seeing thic garages video lol.

I might do the BMS one just for the sound.

I have had this car brand new since 2012 it has been so reliable for me. 103k miles not and I just got a Tesla so I'm pretty much just messing around with the f10 now as my work project type of car and seeing how fun this thing can actually be before it ultimately dies on me.

No, that looks right. That heatshield replaces the top half of the stock air box (the part that has the perimeter screws and "BMW" embossed on the top. This still uses the stock intake tubing prior to the airbox
