Watch out for this one fellows. Recently I've noticed that MHD updates have been sketchy and untested. My monitors weren't working on every update and just prior to that the app was crashing.

Here's what happened.

I was having trouble getting the DME to read my 3.5 tmap. The guys from BMS mentioned that sometimes you need to flash to stock and then flash a custom or a OTS map that reads out a 3.5 tmap.

I thought easy enough I'll just have MHD flash to stock and then I'll flash a custom map over that.

When I flashed to to stock I was getting 160021 crankshaft sensor: can't read position synchronization

It seems either the ecu went to sleep or worse. The car almost starts but then dies. Tried ISTA but I don't t have the right ENET cable so it's going to the dealer and I'll have them run it. Also tried to to flash my original stock bin file but same problem. Looks like I have to follow the instructions on that SIB.

MHD has been super buggy lately. Be careful with that app.

I have to say the new version stalls a lot more in monitoring (Android 10). If Bluetooth is on, it won't even work at all (MHD Wifi). The dials are worse, going into each module is slower. They really need to fix the app

I'll know soon if the dealer can. I think I could've made it work too had I had the ENET cable and ran the ista tests. I ordered one Incase it happens again.

Were you using the WiFi adapter or the k dcan cable? Did you try contacting mhd?

There was similar issue in another thread and MHD was able to get ecu back to life, so I would suggest contacting MHD

For the last update I have switched from Android to IOS and I use MHD wireless adapter which is literally over 10 times faster than the cable. I can do flash from stock or back to stock with uninstalling MHD in about 2.5min (compared to almost 25 min with the cable) or I can flash a tune or change tune settings in about 20 sec. I have never had any issues with Android + cable, Android + MHD wifi adapter or IOS + MHD wifi adapter and I use MHD together with XHP.

There are some prerequisites for flashing a tune with MHD, few important things are to fasten driver's seatbelt so that the car doesn't turn off, to put Android or IOS device in the airplane mode and don't open/close doors or do anything with the car while the flashing is happening. Like I've said, I never has any issues with MHD or XHP running on Android or IOS.

Yes same here.. but I have a 2014... I think his car is 2011...I never had issues too Android, iOS, cable or WiFi but since doubles is in la and car is not working maybe he could try my WiFi adapter. Since he only has kdcan cable

I'm in LA and have the cable. Maybe the problem was that it took 24 minutes to flash back to stock and the ecu went to sleep.

I have an ENET cable inbound for ISTA, but in any case I sent it to the dealer. My TO bearing went out so I'm going have look at that too while I'm out of town. When I return and it's not fixed and ISTA can't fix it then I'll hit you up. Appreciate the offer.

As a general note (and this was determined to have been the root of the issue with that other thread a couple months ago with a similar issue). Any time you do a flash, make certain that you have the latest version of the app, and that your device (phone/ tablet, etc...) is also running the most current version.

Not saying that this was the issue in this case, but just putting it out there for all to note.

Yup and make sure it's in airplane mode with seatbelt on... no seatbelt the ecu will go to sleep

I have messaged MHD directly from facebook and they responded during their normal business hours and provided good customer service to help me trouble shoot my issue.

And reading posts on facebook is like looking at reviews on google... most the time the people who bother to complain are the ones who have issues, so it's not representative of the product all the time. Unless we are all fake.

My issue was around something completely different. It was around the O2 sensor CEL while running decatted with MHD.

I know that getting it to start again is of utmost importance, but be careful what you wish for from the dealer. I'm not sure if it applies to all HARDWARE revisions of the ECUs, but BMW has changed their code and cryptography and after a certain revision you can no longer crack ECUs with flash tunes.

The TL;DR is that you might get it back from the dealer running, and now be unable to install MHD, BM3, xHP or any flash-based tunes of any kind without doing a bench flash (remove the ECU and send it to be cracked).

Can you flash back to stage 1,2? anything?
