Best tune for N63?

Hi,

I have a 2012 550I and was very interested in getting a tune to make this monster even faster. I have seen people talk about the JB4. I have stock downpipes and air intake so looking for more a stage 1 upgrade before I do anything more. What are some good tune options?

Also would you suggest not getting a tune for my car as it has 97,000 miles (but still runs great)?

Let me know ya'll, thanks!

Bootmod3. I just added it to my 550i and it makes quite a difference and is easy to install or flashback to stock if needed.

How many miles and what year is your 550I? Is this your only performance mod? I know certain tunes need catless downpipes or a new air intake system.

I don't think that can be flashed on N63s without shipping the DME?

2015 M-sport, 45,000 miles. Other than an axle-back exhaust, it's my only mod.

Bootmod3 isn't an option for OP. Bootmod3 only offers tunes for the N63TU, not the OG N63 that the 2012 has. Bootmod3 is essentially only for LCI 550i's.

Most people run JB4 for pre-LCI 550's

I'm running the stage 1 tune from ESS tunning in my X5 (Same engine as your 550i, orginal N63). Dropped the 0-60 from 5.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds according to my draggy, pretty amazing for a 8 year old 5300lb tank with over 154,000 miles on it and that's without using launch control (I won't use it, too many miles on transmission ) Your ride being around 1000 lbs lighter will much faster. Highly recommend them, it feels like a different truck now, was quick before but now... its fun They will give you two tunes and the software to change back and forth or back to stock at will.

Is this a piggyback? Can't find anything on the ESS website and they don't appear to have anything under the N63...

Hmmm I thought they had one for the F10, they still have up the n63 for th X5. It's not a piggy back but an actual true custom tune, they send the hardware and software to backup your stock config, you email them this and then in about 24hours they send you your custom tunes. They will even tweak it if you have downpipes/upgraded turbos/intake, etc.

I would still give them a call and see if they can do something for you, they definitely know what they are doing with the N63, I am and loving the tune on mine, feels like a completely different engine.

I emailed them and they confirmed that they have different ECUs despite being the same engine, so they don't have the option for the N63 in the F10. Too bad, was really looking for a solution like that one.

You could go with Dinan to be on the safe/conservative side but still a pretty good improvement. Or check out n63intake.com but you may have to ship your ECU.

I have an appointment scheduled this Wednesday at a local tuner to go Stage 1. They do before and after Dynos, so I'm looking forward to some real world results.

Here's what Stage 1 Engine Tune with Stage 3 XHP tune looks like. Aside from that (and 650i M-Sport mufflers), the car is all stock.

Good friend of mine also has an 12 550i with the jb4 set at stage 1. To keep up with him I have to be in sport mode in my 11 550i while he is in normal mode. He also has the BMS pedal box that he believes made the car far more responsive. I dont need more HP, but the idea of making the car more responsive is what I think for the money I'd do the pedal box upgrade first before doing a tune.
