SOUL 550i Resonated Muffler Bypass Exhaust

Hey everyone! If you're not familiar with us, we've been offering a resonated muffler bypass exhaust for the F10 M5 which has been quite popular. We'd like to take care of the non-M 550i crowd with a similar version. Our muffler delete incorporates straight through resonators to minimize drone to an effective level without neutering the exhaust note for a refined amount of sound.

If someone would make their factory rear section available to us to help in the R&D process they would be entitled to a very strong discount towards our exhaust.

Let us know if you have any input, questions, or comments as we begin to explore crafting components for your 5 series!

Thank you

-Mike

How many dB do you expect from this setup on 550i? Commiefornia passed a stupid law that went into effect Jan 2019 and if CHP measures your exhaust over 95 dB it's a $1k fine (not fix it ticket) and you still have to fix it...

Measured at same level ~ 18" from tip at 45 degree to side... I think at idle and 2500rpm.

I can't speculate as it would be a wild guess. I can get measurements on the R&D car when the time comes.

MSRP would be around $1,195.00 – $1,445.00 depending on tip options (before forum discount), similar to our M5 / M6 bypasses.

California Assembly Bill (A.B.) 1824, which was signed into law by then-Governor Jerry Brown in June of 2018 went into effect on January 1, 2019. The bill has generated significant concern amongst the online enthusiast community. Despite what is being circulated, enactment of A.B. 1824 does not change existing laws pertaining to exhaust noise or sale and installation of aftermarket exhaust systems.

Under existing law, exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, may not exceed a sound level of 95-decibels when tested under Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) test procedure J1169 (May 1998). This was not changed by A.B. 1824.

A.B. 1824 amended how excess exhaust noise violations are handled by law enforcement. Beginning this year, a vehicle cited for violating the current exhaust noise law will no longer receive what is known as a “fix-it” ticket. Instead, violations will result in an immediate fine.

If you look at the SAE standard, it requires knowing the peak horsepower rpm of the vehicle as well, running the vehicle at 3/4 of Max hp rpm, the meter at 20" and 45° offset to the outlet, but not less than 8" from the ground. The cops are unlikely to know the horsepower curve so expect idle and roughly 2500rpm... You can argue it with the referee/court. I would prefer not to have to deal with the corrupt bureaucratic cops and court system.

I know dealing with facts is a pita...

Right. Will be cited and will no longer be a fix it ticket but where does it say it will be fined $1000?
Please. For the sake of everyone else just stop spreading misinformation.

IF I GET PULLED OVER, WILL I RECEIVE A $1,000 FINE?
According to the Judicial Council of California’s Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedules for 2019, the suggested base fine/fee for a first conviction is $25 with a total fee of $193.

Here you go. The law (AB 1824) was amended to change the law removing the officer's ability to issue a fix-it-ticket to an immediate fine.

Do some more searching. The $1K fine is pretty well documented; as well as the need to have a state referee inspect and approve of the repair/modification.
