I do the same thing. I don't mind paying a small premium at airports, as Esteban says... captive audience, but the emphasis is on small.

You are not captive if you choose not to play. As long as there are people who cannot help themselves, businesses will take advantage and who's to blame them.

For me, just because I can afford something doesn't mean its the right thing to do. Businesses are getting bolder all the time. Our local Chevron is charging a full dollar more per gallon than the lowest price gas stations. For me, that's a hard no. $18 for a beer is a hard no.

Last week, I went fast food place where I stand in line to order, get a buzzer to tell me when my order is ready, then pick up my own food. When I went to pay with my card, the cashier spun the Apple Pay screen around and I'm staring at a tip option defaulted to 20%. Another hard no.

I have no problem paying premium as long as there is correlating value.

I agree not to buy a $27 beer, or for that matter an $18 beer. Just walk on.

But where we are definitely a captive audience is at the f**king gas pump!

Premium in my area is $6.79 at Chevron and $5.79 at Costco.
