It is true that my previous I-Step was from 2017, but still wasn't new enough. Last weekend, I had a local BMW specialist do a software update to the latest 2018 version. The dealer quoted $300 exactly as Kwood mentioned. These guys did it for $125. Update the DME, EGS, and DSC.

After the update, the MHD app worked just fine. I loaded the tune and took it for a drive, and I couldn't be happier!
It pulls much harder and doesn't taper off at the higher rpm like it used to. Shifting is significantly faster at WOT, nearly as quickly as my sportbike. Looking forward to the drag strip

I recommend finding an independent shop that uses AutoLogic. They can provide the same software updates at a much lower price. Then, tune and enjoy!!

Yep, he does. Mark seems like a really nice guy and responds to email quickly. He offered to do the software update and provide a BootMod3 license all together. I didn't pursue this because I really wanted MHD and my internet connection isn't very good where I live.

BTW - MHD requested some files from my car after I got it all working. They say it will help them add support for older ROMs in the future.

I went through Mark on PTF's recommendation to update my DME so I could flash BM3. He is outstanding. I had a ton of issues, went through 3 laptops with bad luck. He's in Florida and I'm in Hawaii. He worked with me for two weeks and was extremely flexible in setting up appointments. All said and done it went great and I'm running BM3 with no issues now

Hi Guy's , I was pleased to find this thread!
i'm in the same boat, 2010 production with HW: 000007D5C70801 DME.

i've contacted MHD who still don't support this HW version but want me to beta test for them!

The car is running a very old dme rom (2010). Normally we just upgrade the roms to a 2016 version. But for that old version it may be not as straightforward, so we need someone to volunteer and test with us, we'll offer the $249 flasher license. Worst case, the cars throws a drive train code and must be driven for a full vehicle software, which can be performed at many indie shops for $100-150, and we'll refund that cost. Best case, there's no extra step needed.

If you want to volunteer let me know. Otherwise, you can either wait that we find someone then update the app to support the old rom update, or you get the car updated as mentioned above. Not only will this allow you flash MHD without waiting, but you'll also get other benefits (among them, better shifting for AT).

I've put a response back to MHD but I'm still waiting.

i want to know if the full vehicle software update is needed or just the DME?

I reached out to one remote coder, he's not interested in getting involved in something he's not clearly aware or in control of, plus he wants me to purchase his own map.

Should I upgrade the BMW rom to latest and then upgrade to MHD?

Have any of you upgraded the TCU to the latest rom, if so has this made an impact on the gearbox changing faster?

Do you also think the suggested approach that MHD has put forward is likely to fail?

I saw that update too. Looks like my old ROM would be supported as well.

So, all the work updating my DME, EGS, and DSC ROMs to the latest version only got me an extra month or two of early MHD.
Oh well, couldn't predict the future.

Are you going to give it a try now?

Everybody should update their cars every couple of years anyway. I really don't know why they bothered supporting very old outdated ROMs. I'd much prefer to see the latest ROMs supported rather than old superseded ones.

Yes it's fully supported now, download the app, connect to car. The app will recognise your rom and allow you to purchase the flash. I've been running it for 3-4 months without any problems

You'll get up to 8 years newer versions of nearly every electronic module in the car. Bug fixes, possibility of new coding features, drives/shifts nicer etc.

BMW dealer.
Just ask for complete vehicle programming. My local dealer is about $300 for this service.

Moving forward is this still an ongoing issue with MHD or has this been resolved now? Just an inquiry

So your issue hasn't been corrected? does that mean you paid, dl the software and can't use it?

I am in the exact same boat with my 2011 so I'm going to an indy shop that works on BMW's and the confirmed they have all the software updates and they can flash all my ECU's. Why would anyone want to stick with the old versions when they can update and then use bimmercode to code in new features like enhanced Bluetooth, or auto-folding mirrors, etc? Bimmercode also has issues with older software versions, so there is more than just one reason to upgrade.

Can't wait for MHD stage 2+!!!!
