Rotor Size
I have a 2013 BMW 535i that I recently bought from a private owner who provided me with maintenance paperwork. When I took it in the other day to get an oil change, a BMW super/manager said that the front rotors are the same size as the rear rotors; therefore, being too small. I looked through the paperwork and found that they had installed new rotors in June 2020. I showed him the paperwork and he assured me that they had installed the correct rotors. Later, after I got home and looked at the part numbers, I noticed that the front and rear rotors have different part numbers (Front: 34-11-6-884-301; Rear: 34-21-6-775-287). Are both the rear and front rotors supposed to be the same? Does any one know by looking at the part number if the front rotors are in fact too small? There is no other rotor replacement service anywhere in the paperwork that I've noticed. Is he yankin' my chain, I hope not. TIA!

Front rotors are 348x30
rear rotors are 330x20 I am thinking whomever installed them before got the front & rear rotors mixed up. easy way to confirm will be to take one wheel off front & rear and measure thickness. Last edited by Conserve; 12-31-2023 at 12:49 PM.. Reason: . |

Thanks for the information/photos, Conserve!! I'm going to call the 2 shops that the previous owner had taken the car to for tire/brake service to see if they have any information regarding the front rotors. The paperwork I have does not indicate that the rotors had ever been replaced since BMW had put new ones on in 2020. It does seem strange that BMW would accidentally put the incorrect size on the car, but mistakes do happen and that's what I'm trying to find out. Would the rotors have any numbers engraved in them to identify them?

I don't think rotors have part# stamped or embossed in them as part of casting. Easiest way would to confirm 100% is taking two wheels off yourself and check rotor thicknesses. Can you post pic of that paperwork.

Part numbers I wrote down match with your latest posted document. And this is same dealership told you front discs look small for front and you saying they did the job back in 2020. If my understanding is correct then I will take the car back to them and tell them take the wheels off and measure the thickness which is very easy and go from there.

The photos that you posted are LCI rotors. Since my 535i is a 2013 (pre-LCI), will these fit?

Midwaymonsters Your VIN please
Were you able to get in-touch with the shops and see if they changed rotors post 2020, which was done by BMW dealer per paperwork you showed? If other shop did not change them, I am thinking dealer presumably wrote right part# on paperwork for front rotors, but they grabbed wrong rotors (same as rear ones) and installed for front. This is getting interesting.... Last edited by Conserve; 01-04-2024 at 09:38 PM.. Reason: . |

I am recently shopping for my rear rotor. I have a 2011 535iX. I replaced my front rotors with 345/30mm (PN: 34 11 6 884 301) in 2020.

I did not see your VIN. So I went back and configured pre LCI as followings. With that there are two options for front rotors.
Option 1 is bidirectional rotors Brake disc, lightweight, ventilated, left 348X36, P/N: 34116785669_OTY 1 Brake disc, lightweight, ventilated, right 348X36, P/N: 34116785670_ QTY 1 Option 2 non bidirectional rotors Brake disc, ventilated 348X30, P/N: 34116884301 _ QTY 2 So, if 2nd shop did not change rotors then is dealer error. Now if they want to own up to it or not is TBD. Last edited by Conserve; 01-05-2024 at 09:00 PM.. Reason: . |

Did you install them yourself? If not, may I ask how much it cost you to have them installed? Are you sure they're 345x30? The initial photos above from Conserve has the same PN listed as 348x30.
