There were a lot of factors going on when I did my bleeding, like the calipers hitting the hub of the rotors. If you aren't introducing air into your system and just doing a pad replacement, you'll probably be fine. But without ISTA you can't bleed 100% of the fluid because with just pressure you won't clear out the ABS/DSC pumps and systems unless you have the software to engage them during the bleeding process. For 125 bucks at an indy, I would say it's worth it to have them do it if you don't have ista.

Regarding brakemotive - What a horrible company. They stand firm that BMW was incorrect in manufacturing my car so it's not their fault they sent the wrong set up. They said dispute through ebay but guess what? That means a return and I'm not interested in doing that since I got things working. Seriously...

i used that one from HF bro and it didn't work thus i bought the Motive Power Bleeder. worked like a charm

Nope. didn't need to. if i felt it wasn't safe i would've brought it to the dealer. Kies Motorsports has a video and he did a flush using the same bleeder with no issues. i guess lots of people do this when they have a track day coming up as it's part of the list of things to do

Yea I saw kies a while back and he didn't use ista or Foxwell! Thanks for the heads up on the harbor freight one... I used it in the past on an accord and land cruiser and did work... but I feel more comfortable using the motive bleeding... that's why u bought it last year.

i use the HF on my Nissan Titan. works great! hooked it up to the BMW and it didn't do squat lol so it seemed the go to bleeder was the Motive. i was very surprised at how easy it was to use. pretty simple and straight forward

SHOOT! Is this what happened?! Did I have 550 brakes already? And then i ordered "normal" 535 brakes and hence I had to shave my freaking calipers and pads to make them fit on the new rotors?

UPDATE: BrakeMotive is sending me new discs AND pads for the 550 brakes. Customer service lady said... yea we always have issues with fitment on BMW's and MB... go figure. They list 550 brakes and 535 brakes in their ad as interchangeable. She even confirmed there are unique part #'s for the 550 front discs since they have directional cooling, but for whatever reason they don't update their Ebay listing.

I wonder if my car came with the 550 brakes from the factory since it is a 6 spd, it came with the oil cooler which is unique on a non m-sport car. I'll probably never know but it's good to know whats going on now finally and glad the lady at brake motive hooked me up!

You definitely have the 550 brakes if you have 60/36 calipers. The size should be stamped on the calipers somewhere.

New rotors and pads came in and they match my old front set up! Sweet deal! So it looks like I learned the hard way that I have 550i front brakes on my car... I wonder if that was factory with the 6spd or if that was a previous owner who upgraded it. I'm getting these bad boys put on tonight.

Here are the differences in the the discs. Look how the old pads swallowed up the smaller rotors and you can see where they were building a groove. New brakes have the proper clearance and stop SOOO much better than before.
If you have the standard 535 brakes getting the 550 calipers and rotors is a huge improvement! That's for sure!

Hey man , I have the same issue . I have the caliper and carrier from an F01 750 which I guess shares the same spec as the US SPEC 550 . My question is for the calipers do I order 345/46 or 348/36 or 374/36 . My car is 11 535
