How dirty was it to begin?

I've got a lease turn in whose tips were filthy - I'd have to use a bottle and scrub to get it clean - in fact, I used some diluted Diablo to begin the process and a brush I use on wheels. Warning - if you do this, wear eye protection and old clothes.

The best thing out there for cleaning polished exhaust tips is the P21S Polishing Soap. It does wonders to your tips, especially if you get into the habit of using it with every car wash.

Don't even waste your money on those chemicals. Steel wool with a bit of soap and water. Took off 7 years worth of exhaust gunk on my "matte black" exhaust tips. They're now chrome and shinier than ever

I would recommend you get #0000 super fine steel wool, not just any old steel wool. Works great on several detailing tasks without causing damage.

probably have to take into consideration what kind of tips you have that way you don't ruin the finish. for example the steel wool pad would be great but if you have chrome tips and the inner tip is chrome I wouldn't use that as it will tarnish and leave a dull look. I actually stopped cleaning the inner tips of my Meisterschaft's just because it get dirty after driving it around for a day

Never would have thought to use wheel cleaner. Looks like it did the trick!
