New owner questions
Had my 520d Lux Auto Tourer 2014 model for a month now, and still working out what everything does. Got a few questions if anyone can help...
1) I have no facility to configure the Sports Mode. I only have Eco-Pro, Comfort and Sport available, and on Eco-Pro can configure the AC only, but no ability to configure Sport at all. Is this right or has it been disabled somehow? 2) I have tried to update the software via the USB using the BMW website download, but it states no device attached, although it can be seen on the media drive. Also, my Ipad is only seen intermittently (which I hoped the update would solve). Is there a history of issues with the USB port? 3) I am considering a move away from runflats as it seems a hard ride, and putting winter tyres on. Can you run winters on one axle and runflats on the other and if so, which axle would work best re-grip/stability? I would only do this till the runflats went below the 3mm, and then I would run winters on all 4. 4) I find the wheel bolts are very short and I almost cleaned the edges of them whilst removing them. Can you buy 'approved bolts' with longer heads? Any help with these answers would be appreciated |

2. Not recommended to mix run-flats with non run-flats, even of similar type/specification. Certainly not recommended to mix summer and winter tyres on any car. Totally different characteristics. If you want winter tyres all year around, fit all four. What about an All-Season tyre? Something like the Michelin 'cross climate', if you must go for one all-weather tyre. 4. Don't follow what can be wrong with the wheel bolts, standard bolts are fine. Sure you don't need a new 17mm socket if you are damaging the bolt heads? |

Thanks
The bolts just seem very short, I started using a 17mm wheel brace, which couldn't grip the bolt and then moved to a 17mm socket and pretty much the same result. Don't really want to be left with a 'nubbin' that I won't be able to remove. The bolts seem at least 10mm shorter than any other bolt I've seen on a wheel |

For question 1, sounds like you probably have the standard auto gearbox rather than the sports auto one. Do you have paddles on the steering wheel?

Yes, I have the paddles but no Sport+ or Comfort+, just the 3 modes, and can only set the aircon on and off for Eco-Pro, hardly what I would call the ability to configure

On the USB update, are you using the USB slot in the glovebox? I didn't even know I had one, but found reference to it on the installation instructions. The update worked great then, and I get album art etc when using spotify on my phone & a hard cable from the phone to the centre console usb port.

You can re-enable it through coding, however.

For the OP your car won't have sports auto despite having paddles as BMW in their wisdom removed Sports Auto for any F10/F11 that is less than a 525d
