2016 n20 timing chain guide failure
Hi all! I have a 16' 528i XDrive.
My model happens to be a 07-15 N20 that is supposed to have the updated timing chain and guides that was introduced in post 01-2015 models. I have some serious slack in the chain both horizontal and vertically. The guide also has some deep grooves where the chain has been sitting. Has anyone else had issues with BMW's "improved" timing components still failing. I find it a bit ridiculous that even the improved version is having the same symptoms as the old design. VIDEO OF SLACK View post on imgur.com I have contacted two local BMW dealerships but they all say that the 7YR-70,000mi warranty is VIN specific and not for post 2015 models. Any insight would be great. Last edited by BesnikM; 05-16-2022 at 05:29 PM.. |

I believe that the new and improved timing chain guides are white in Color and that the orange ones are the ones prone to breaking. Not sure why yours being a 2016 still has orange guides….
