Cabin Air Filter Issue

Have a 2012 535 I Xdrive - Went to replace my Cabin Air Filter this weekend, when I took out the old Air filter (installed by a BMW specialty shop) there was only 1 filter - I was under the impression there should be 2 filters? When I went to install 2 filters back in, I could only fit 1 no matter what I did - Guessing the BMW tech had the same issue - These are non OEM Hengst E2978LC-2 filters - A few questions

1- Should there be 2 filters???
2 - Should they fit easily?!?!
3- Did I buy the wrong filter???

If so would the MAHLE LAK 467/s be correct or should I waste the $$$ at BMW

Any help is really appreciated..

Thanks!

There are two filters. They are parallel to each other. It should look similar to this.

Thank you both! I didn't realize there were two separate compartments - 20 minutes later and I'm all set! Looks like the filter in the back hasn't been changed in who knows how long - It was nasty - Thinking the Mechanic who changed my filters last didn't have a clue - But from now on I'll do it myself

Thanks again!

The filters are also directional. If they have a tab, the tab should face TOWARDS direction of travel (aka nose of car). If they do not, the arrow should face AWAY from direction of travel (aka trunk of car). There's a lot of bad info on the direction of the filters.
