Official BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo thread (Wallpapers/Videos/Press Release)
BIMMERPOST / Official Coverage BMW 5-Series GT (Gran Turismo)F07 The all new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is not only a new model but an all new shape of vehicle in the BMW lineup. With a length nearly the size of the 7 Series, the 5 series name is somewhat deceptive as to what the actual size of this car is. The car boasts the second largest amount of legroom of all the cars in BMWs lineup. The trunk is barely smaller then that of the X5. As you are starting to realize, this car is intended to haul goods and transport people. However, a great deal of attention has been paid to the details and its transport duties are meant to be done in the utmost of comfort, style and ease. The rear seats can be arranged in either a 2 seat or 3 seat combination with a dual lift tailgate in a hatchback style. The styling of the car is all BMW, with the familiar large kidney grills that have passed into every car in the lineup. Cues are of course taken from the CS concept car but with a unique 5 series spin. The car is also featuring BMWs black panel technology upon which the instruments light up when needed. Its a nice mixture of technology and style. The car will be available in 530d, 535i and 550i trim. Wallpapers Videos Dimensions Length 197in. 5004mm. Width 74.8in. 1901mm. Height 61.4in. 1559mm. Wheelbase 120.9in. 3070mm. Track (f) 63.4in. 1611mm. Track (r) 65.1in. 1654mm. Weight, unladden (435i) 4442.3lbs. 2015kg. |

5 Series GT
With the new Hi-Res pictures, it actually looks pretty good! Also gives a nice preview of the next 5 Series Sedan that will follow soon.
As for why this car? it's simple, Demographics and $. It will sell ... just follow the numbers in the next few months after it's release. |

Damn that's an ugly exterior... almost looks like a volvo...
The interior though... beautiful! Definately tempting... I was planning on a 3series Wagon for the family car, but then they go and confuse my choices again

Fugly. I am a bit disappointed in BMW for trying to be all things to all (affluent) buyers. I mean, the X5 in 2000 was a stretch but its now very successful. I have one because it is clearly different and serves a different purpose than a 5 series.
Now there's a five series wagon (lower than the X5)...clearly meant to attract the non-SUV buyer, but now there's a 5 to attract the non-SUV and non-wagon buyer? It's hard to see the logic here. Not a sedan, not an SUV, not a wagon...oh, right....IT'S A CROSSOVER!!!! I thought the X5 was a crossover (sorry, SAV). So this must be a crossover, corssover. Wait, wasn't that the X6? Not and SUV, but a "coupe". I just don't get these guys...they've taken the 5 platform and bastardized it. Now the 1, and the 3 is next. |

I hated it when people said this about the X6,
but what in the hell is the point of this car?

Crossover 5'er?
Although my first impression was" It's just another X car," after a closer look it has some features that make it attractive to an older audience.
Like many contributors here I've never liked the oversized 7's, mainly because no one needs or can use that much car. It's a bling statement. Since I have less need of a truck now, and my wife's aging, but always beautiful 528it is reaching it's expiration date, the combination of size and utility in this car could be just what we're looking for. It carries golf clubs easily, carries a ton of luggage and is luxury once you arrive. Of course, at this point any impressions are just wistful thinking so I'll have to wait until it gets over to see if it really fits. |

i somewhat like it maybe its the interior that gets me to like it. The back of it I am not getting a good vibe at all. I guess i will have to see it in person. The interior is off the hook!!!

The current lines of 5 & 7 series have the unproportionally oversized kidney grills, making the headlights looking small. I do not appreciate such design.
However, the interior of both new series are great, sending a sense of sportiness and luxury. |

My Gt
I will be getting my first GT soon and I couldnt be more excited. I was hoping to get a little more inside info of the overall thought of the mechanics of the Gt and if youve found anything in particular about it that you deem less than stellar.
