Best time to sell my car?

I currently own a 2016 528i xDrive and I got it for an amazing deal off auction at $25k with 26k miles last year. It's loaded with every single package and has the adaptive cruise control buttons on the steering wheel too. I also added the M-Sport wheel because it's so much better than OEM Sport. If I sell this car I'm planning on getting a 6 cylinder BMW, is it more worth going for a 340i or a 530/540i. Also, anyone have any estimates for how much my car would go for? Current listed ones only have 2 packages or 3 on the car so I'm not sure.

The classic depreciation curve flattens out a bit around 4 or 5 years, so you won't lose too much keeping the car a bit longer, depending also on odometer miles.

The last model year of the F10 shouldn't present too many problems either. The newer 5-ers are better handling but also have tighter and stiffer standard "sport" seats, so your options will make a difference in the newer car.

Going to a 3 series is a big change once you've gotten used to a 5-er. I've said that a 5 series is what a 3 series wants to be when it grows up. Handling is the biggest difference to start with as the 3-er will be more nimble.

Yeah the 5 series is way more better at just cruising on a road compared to a 3 series I drove which was not as smooth

For pricing, you can try Carvana. Just sold my F06 to them and for $2500 more than the trade in, with no hassle

Not even that. It's just so much more quiet in a 5 series compared to a 3. Materials also are way nicer.

My experience has been quite different.

The stock 2016 535d comes with 45 aspect 18 inch wheels, sport steering wheel (not M) and sport transmission. The LCI version of the f10 is arguably a better handling car than the original also.

Trying a M335i and 235i M package on the BMW drivers' track made me appreciate my stock 535d as the steering feel and general comfort are superior, especially compared to the numb 2-series. I think an e90 335d with sport package still does better than the electric steering replacements too.

Ideally, I could bring my 1991 318is back to my life as it had the perfect balance of ride and handling missing in many so-called performance setups.

YMMV

Yeah I agree, I've drove a 2 and 3 series before and it's very fun to drive but comfort in the 5 series is crazy

M335i? You mean M340i? There never was a M335i AFAIK

My memory may be playing me. Could have been the 2-series as an M235i and the 335i was an M-package.

Yea, there was a M235i, and a 335i/340i for the F30 generation. The G20 3 series has a M340i

I'd check out kbb.com and go to "Check the value of my car" to get a good starting price.

PS if you're looking to get a V8 with some turbos, I got mine for sale as well: https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/c...195702468.html

The price is what you will get, you'll have to go get quotes, but the used market is pretty strong right now so unless you are replacing with a new BMW, its gonna be a wash.

With regard to 5 vs 3, as others have mentioned, there is a marked quality and ride difference. Also, do you want a smaller car or are you happy with a 5er cruiser, which is what it is. Dont expect to be throwing it around any twists and curves and be better than a 3. The N20 in the 528 is also a slouch, so a better engine will improve performance. You've gotta think about what aspects are important to you.

Does the N20 in the 328 feel and drive better than the 5er?

I did drive the N20 in a 3er once (loaner) and it did feel better probably because of the weight of the car. I think in general, the 3 provides better driving dynamic, while the 5 is larger and more luxurious.

I currently own both a 2015 328xi and a 2015 535i (after having driven several 528i's), and yes, the N20 feels a lot different in the 328.

The 328 feels lively and nimble, whereas the 535i feels like a larger, heavier car. I couldn't even consider the 5 with the N20--the car is just too heavy. Even with the N55 it feels like a boat.

I think the N20 is just fine in the 5er for most people's daily driving needs, just not to race around in. The F10 will feel like a boat regardless of the engine in it, when compared to the 3. That was exactly my first thought when I drove my f10 after my e46.

I'm not sure I agree. My 550i with active dampers does feel like a boat in Comfort mode, but when I switch to Sport it becomes light and sprightly.
It might be an N20 thing, because even the N55 guys seem to be content with the handling and performance.

I didnt say that one wouldn't be content with the 5er, just that a 3er will always handle better and seem more responsive

I have a 2016 535d, my ex has a 2017 440. Night and day difference. Seats, ride quality, and overall features. When she first drove mine she said man, I shoulda bought one of these.
