I think someone posted the bulletin.
Actually:

N63= every oil change (unless replaced in last 12 months)
N63tu, S63, N55, N57, N74 = every other oil change (unless replaced in last 12 months)

Its SIB 61 30 14
It also says to replace 90AH batteries with 105AH units

Every oil change... So the battery should be under warranty still size it would be less than a year old.

Mine is going in for service next week.. 2 out of the 3 people I spoke with hadn't heard of this "recall" (SIB). So I emailed them everything I find.... Hadn't heard back yet. They did say there are to recalls but couldn't tell me if they pertain to this. Anybody use BMW of Des Moines out there?

Some questions:

1. Has anyone been everything short of turned away for bringing your car in for the campaign? After a blood pressure rising back and forth, SA states my car will be returned to me if parts need to be ordered and I'll have to schedule another appointment upon parts arrival. Seems absurd, as I'm experiencing a misfire at this time. Is it even safe to drive a car with a misfire?

2. Is every car that falls under the campaign entitled to an oil and filter change, even if out of warranty? Does it make a difference if the car had a recent oil and filter change (2,000+ miles ago)?

3. Is every car that falls under the campaign entitled to a new battery, even if out of warranty? Does it make a difference whether the car has the 90 amp battery or the 105 amp one? Seems every 90 amp battery should be replaced!

4. Would any of the parts under this campaign remedy a problem where it's difficult to fill one's gas tank because pump nozzles constantly shut off automatically (a problem I've had since my vent lines were replaced due to the smell of gasoline in my cabin)?

What a mess.

Thanks.

Seams like this Service Bulletin is only for US, spook to my local dealer today (in Sweden) and they could find anything for my 750i F01.

1) I would hope they get the parts in very quick, unless there is a shortage, which there shouldnt be.

2)The oil and filter change are only if you need your timing chain replaced. This is because they engine has to be removed and opened up to do the job, so the oil and filter needs to be changed regardless of when it was last done.

If your timing chain is not replaced there is no oil change required.

3) Batteries are only replaced free on cars still under the USA 4 year maintenance plan. The 90AH ones are being changed to 105 AH on the warranty cars because the 105AH will undergo less stress than the 90AH one.

You do not have to replace yours if out of warranty unless you are having low battery issues.
A proper Cteck battery charger used every couple weeks will massively help prevent any battery problems by keeping the battery fully charged.

4) No, that is a completely different issue. Sounds like a blocked vent or something.

Thanks, E90Fleet!

But if the 90 amp batteries are known to be insufficient, shouldn't they be replaced with the 105 amp ones no matter what?

When did BMW switch to 105 amp batteries being factory installed?

105AH batteries have always been factory installed with certain options and certain models.
Lower spec ones got 90AH (some are 92AH depending on make)

You dont have to change it when out of warranty unless you are having problems.

A good charge from a Ctek charger every now and then will prevent most battery issues. They are cheap, easy to get (Amazon ect) and used by BMW dealers worldwide.
My car will be out of under warranty and maintenance at 11/15 of this year. But what you're saying is it's just preventative and only should be replaced IF I have a low battery issue? I only drive my car about 11-15 miles a day b/c of my commute, so would you recommend a charger in the interim? Based on my FOB, there was a low battery issue at around 20k miles which was before I got the car, but I've never had it in the ~13k miles I've driven in the last 12 months.

LET'S NOT FOOL OURSELVES.

The revised battery replacement policy only protects BMW so customers don't complain of the issue while under warranty, warranties which must be upheld by law.

THEN when out of warranty and our batteries die prematurely we are on our own dime, from what I understand.

This means there is an obvious design defect and this is wrong.

We were not sold cars with the understanding that our batteries would need to be replaced once a year, much less to the tune of $700+.

Its is not a recall. It is a USA service action.
Currently only in the USA.

The 550's volume for other countries are so small that BMW probably won't issue any service bulletin or recall.

I get the feeling that so many people in the US are having the same problems that it's affecting the reliability ratings. On top of that, potential lawsuits and forced recall actions by the NHTSA. BMW is probably doing this keep themselves from a PR meltdown.

Even recall are issued later in many countries.
Often it due to them not having enough parts to issue it everywhere worldwide at the same time.

I would expect them to release this worldwide soon.
And this way USA customers will be the test cases that will show if the fix works before they send money in other parts where it costs much more to do this.

To comment on number 4. I had a similar issue like this in my old Audi A6 2.7t where I would continually smell gas and even times have gas spew out. Crazy part is they let me drive around like that for months, I thought I was going crazy. Young and dumb though, so eventually I forced the issue and it ended up being a faulty roll over valve. My extended warranty company didn't want to pay so I had to persist and pull some strings and eventually they paid. AUDI wouldn't accept responsibility, it was about a 9k job to drop awd system and remove fuel tank to replace. Surprise, 10 months later there was a recall issued for this issue.

To look back I was literally driving around with fuel spewing out of my car

Charlie,

My 2011 X5 recently fell out of warranty (11/2014). It has less than 30,000 miles. I had the battery replaced last winter under warranty. I've had the increased battery discharge come on recently. Will BMW provide another battery or do I pay out of pocket? I plan on contacting my local dealership in the next day or so to schedule an appointment. But I would like to know your thoughts first.

Yes. Once you have chosen your vehicle and negotiated the best price, this "N63 Discount" is then applied on top of that.
