Wrong Brake pads sent - Which do you have?

So BrakeMotive which seems to be a fairly large ebay vendor, sent me the wrong pads for my 2011 535i. The description, linked below, says this is what I should order. I confirmed it's what I should order. However when I went to swap them out, look at the size difference! They claimed that my front pads are from a 535 GT and that the back pads are from a completely different BMW model. ??? What's up with that? Can anyone confirm? Did different brakes come on the 535?

It's a non msport, BUT it is a 6sp with an oil cooler (so a bit more sporty). Would they have put different brakes on this car OEM or did a previous owner upgrade them?

Pic below is the part #, sent pads, old pads from top to bottom. See how much wider the older pads are. The new pads won't even fit in the carrier.

I'll post pictures later of mine. My new front pads look different than what you have. My rears look exactly like your OEM's rears. I think mine are correct as I glanced at what's on the car now and they look to be the same

Researching my calipers it looks like they are 7 series - bmw 60/36, does the 5 series share these brakes with the 7 series?

when torqueing down the caliper brackets the Youtube video mentions 110 newt meters (i think that's what he said) i usually know of it in lbs? is their a conversion to convert to? normally when they say 50 lbs or 100 lbs i set my torque to that. but 110 newt meters...i'm not sure what that means? any help would be great!

Hey I went through the same thing. You have 345mm rotors and not the 330mm rotors.

If you look on autozone.com they sell 2 different sized pads, one for 345mm rotors front and rear and one for 330mm front and rear. There were 2 different size brakes and seems like a crap shoot on which one you got.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys and that makes sense. The CS person at brake motive actually suggested that BMW made a MISTAKE when assembling my car and put the WRONG brakes on it... seriously.

While waiting for the pads, that they STILL haven't shipped, I decided to mock some things up... and look at this crap!

It looks sweet but the calipers rub on the hub of the disc, look at the size difference! Stock is roughly 6" and these ones are like 7 3/4.

Believe it or not it still turns, I might just dremmel the caliper down slightly to remove rubbing...

Wow this company sucks, no one buy these brakes. Once they get set it'll be fine but fitment issues galore. Caliper rubbing on the hub like crazy, need to take some metal off the caliper to get clearance. You get what you pay for.

In case you aren't on the other thread:

Update:
After finally getting a bleed good enough to make it driveable I took it for a spin and found the issues mentioned above about the calipers grinding, however I got them working, but it wasn't without some major modifications lol... ya'll think I'm nuts but I was determined to make this work! See pics below.

I still need to take this into the indy because my pedal is soft but it's 100% driveable now and safe. I would imagine that I could not bleed the brakes because I couldn't get proper travel of the calipers with them rubbing like they were... or maybe not. I definitely couldn't brake well with them like that.

So to get them to work I took a grinder and took probably a 1/4 in off of the calipers and had to dig into the pads. It was nasty and I had to test fit about 30 times but finally got it to go. Once done grinding I re-did the paint and took it for a test drive and the thing brakes wonderfully (save the soft pedal I'm fixing today). But no rubbing, no squeaking and all is well.

Now I'm going to contact the seller for a partial refund. What a mess, but hey, that's ebay car life. One day I'll learn.

Here are some pics in chronological order:

Aren't you concerned that you compromised the caliper & mounting bracket?

No way, didn't touch the caliper carrier at all, and the caliper is just soft cast metal that melted away under the grinder, very soft and so doesn't really have any major required load on it other than it holding the outside pad in place. Plus this side of the caliper is opposite the part that has hydraulics connected to it so didn't come close to that either.

Got it.

They don't owe you a partial refund, they owe you a total refund. No matter which way you slice it, they sent the wrong parts to you!

I think they may be soft because you now have different sized pistons. It will probably take coding then bleeding to correct.

Same sized pistons. I bleed them with ista twice but we'll see what the mech says tomorrow.

Man, that's quite a bit of material you removed. That would bother me all the time

If you had to grind the calipers to fit....
Just saying.

If I ever wanted to calipers on eBay are 50 bux, not a big deal. I knew I'd get some flack for this lol. It is just fine however. This is the part of modding I enjoy, making things work. And these things even with the soft pedal are beasts compared to my stock brakes. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and check them out after it is all dialed in.

I didn’t mean that, that is what modding and DIY is all about.
I’m just saying bigger calipers mean bigger or more pistons which in turn means more fluid or pressure required.

OK, just picked it up, thing stops on a dime, I can actually lock them up fairly easy and no more squeaky brakes! Mech didn't see a problem at all with what I did, besides the fact I orders parts for my BMW off of ebay... but I digress...

So the way you bleeded the brakes was wrong? Reason why I ask is because I used to do the bleeding from furthest to closest from brake booster... I have motive bleeder kit I bought with my oem rotors and pads back in Black Friday last year...I also have the air compressor bleeder from harbor freights... I am planning to do the flush and brake job very soon...
