What do you guys think of the new 2021 BMW M5C?

It looks really nice imo. Idk if I am a fan of the interior seats. They dont look too comfortable. Other than that, it looks hella nice. But, I can't afford it. . Guess I'll stick to my E90 for rn.

It’s about the size of an offshore powerboat...no thanks...

Ah yes, I too like smacking my junk on things sticking out from the seat cushions.

Love it. I had the opportunity to flog one of the “regular” M5’s a while back at my old work. What a machine. I can only imagine what this thing is like to drive.

I hate when my d*ck flies out of my pants under hard braking, so I think the seats are great.

Looks like it's a CS? I think that's an even more special edition than a plebeian Competition package.

It's true tho, those seats will only get in the way of your constant erection from driving an M5CS.

Looks like an interesting exercise but makes little sense to me. Why compromise so much on a car that is too big and heavy?

The M5 strikes a good balance, if you're really wanting to go fast best to start with a much smaller platform.

Seems pointless to me. It will be fast on a track, but it will tear the Hell out of the tires, brakes, and suspension due to the weight. It won't be comfortable on the street AT ALL with those seats and presumably rock-crusher suspension.

I totally don't get the point of track-focused luxobarges. If you can afford this, you can afford a fast enough sedan for the road and something that will actually be great on a trackday. Or better yet, something luxurious that can TOW the trackday toy to the track.

Love the paint, hate the bronze accents.

I agree; willing to be less than 0.1% will ever see the track.

Most "performance" driving they will see is flooring it on the on ramp to cut off someone. Plus other than the badge, it doesn't look a total big difference from a normal 5 series

But ultimately the badge IS the point, is it not? It shows that you can afford the silly thing.

You guys all miss the point. The market for family track days is finally cornered.

I presume there’s enough room for helmets in the rear headliner

You are truly right; Comparing measuring sticks.

Honestly though this is why people who put M badges on base models are the true thinkers. 99% wouldnt know a difference other than that

Yep, and this is why their sales numbers for performance sedans are tanking. Sedans are a hard sell in the US anyway compared to CUVs, but an expensive luxobarge that offers very little over it's Lexus and Mercedes-Benz counterparts? Considering the hideous styling, I doubt they will sell many.

BMW has spent so much time trying to be like everyone else, that they forgot what attracted buyers to the brand to begin with. Almost everyone I know who has been a loyal BMW customer (some of them for decades) will not be buying a new one, and likely switching to another brand for their next vehicle purchase.

It's not just the enthusiasts either, as many of these long-time buyers I wouldn't consider to be car enthusiasts, they simply have bought BMWs because they enjoyed how they drive.

I think many people are completely missing the point. Do you think BMW is going struggle to sell these? Doubt it...

Anyone in this thread who has actually driven a new X5M, X6M, or the M5 knows they’re undeniable. What makes them so appealing is that SUVs and luxury mid-size sedans aren’t supposed to be able to do the things they can do. They’re insane. You can talk all you want about curb weight, practicality, etc... but until you’ve driven even the lowly pleb non-CS, non-Competition M5, I would reserve judgement.

You guys are right: most people who buy these probably aren’t tracking them. You know why? Because they have that fuck-you money and can afford to buy a dedicated track car.

This discussion made me think of a guy I sold an M6 Gran Coupe to many years ago. Guess why he wanted it? None of his other cars—one of which was a brand-new 911 GT3–was practical for daily driving.

I don't have any interest in "doing the things an X5M can do" in something like an X5M. I don't have "fuck you" money, and thus I find them completely and utterly pointless. If I want to go fast (enough), it is going to be in something about half the weight and a quarter the power for a tenth of the expense.

I actually don't agree with this at all. Relative to the competition, BMW is right about where they have always been with cars. The whole industry has moved in a direction that I don't care for - but gun to my head to choose a new car, it would be a BMW still. I *like* the G20, but they won't sell me one in the configuration that would make me spend my hard-earned money on one (they barely even MAKE that configuration anymore). But as shown by what I bought last summer (minty '11 128i convertible, mit stickshift), I don't need to buy any more new BMWs. There is no shortage of lovely ones from the eras when they made what I want to buy, and they don't do Euro Delivery anymore, which was a big draw to me. Lots cheaper too, not that I particularly care. As I just said in another reply, I don't have :"fuck you" money - but I do have "drive what I damned well please" money. If I wanted an M5 CS I could buy one, but I don't see the point of a car like this at all. Though I would take one of these over any of the silly-fast bad minivans they also make these days.

Sadly I do not have that fuck-you money either .

TBH, if I could afford one I would probably buy one, but in this context “afford” means comfortably afford, which implies a level of income I’m not sure I’ll ever attain.

Like many of us, I drive an N52 because it’s practical and does what I need. I still do appreciate these modern-day M cars for the engineering marvels they are though...

I drive an N52 because it's the only way they sold e91s in the states. But even given the choice, I would not have bought a 335i e91. I just don't need to go that fast in such a car. Given global choices I probably would have gone for a 320d if I could have. I did buy a new M235i, and while it was fun, I ultimately found it rather boring. Too easy to reach license melting speeds without even thinking about it. In Europe, it was awesome, here, it just felt like being held back all the time. Like a hobbled race horse. If I want to get flung around and feel some g's - I will buy a ticket to Six Flags, it's a lot cheaper.

It would not be "prudent" for me to buy a $150K car, but I could do it. It would just have to be my ONLY car. And this sure as heck would not do as my only car. Ultimately, to me once you get beyond $50-60K, it's just too steep of a hill of diminishing returns. When a $50K M235i is fast enough to send you directly to jail - why do you need anything faster than that? More expensive than $50K mostly just shows that you *can*. I don't need to show that with a car.

People with "fuck you" money don't drive M5's. They drive high end cushy cruisers as a daily then have a 911 or something for the track. That's the issue with this car. It doesn't do anything well, besides 0-100 runs. You think the "fuck you" rich people are going to spend that much on something that rattles their every joint going down the road? Of course not.

If they are like the rich people in CT they drive 1990s Toyota Camrys and never spend any money haha.

I'd like to feel the acceleration for sh!ts and giggles but honestly wouldn't want to own this if someone gave it to me. It's way more engine thrills than I should be exposed to on public roads on a daily basis, with none of the tension release of a MT. I'm sure my days in this car would be numbered in more ways than one.
